Maine's schedule last year was as soft as butter in July, which gave some of us false hope vis-a-vis their record. The somewhat stiffer competition this season has exposed Red and his recruiting yet again.
These days, when interference is actually enforced, "systems" really matter very little. It's easy to coach hockey when you have superior speed and hands; and Maine is slow afoot and ham-handed... Ergo, what we have here.
Not pontificating, just my opinion.

These refs are eating their whistles big time, a couple calls both ways that could have easily been called. Another good period, hopefully they keep it up. Top line for Maine looks dynamite, second line not so bad themselves.

Entertaining game, Umass awarded a penalty shot but it was denied by Swayman. Then Maine got a 5 minute power play and another minor power play where they potted 3 power play goals. Both teams with a ton of chances and both clanked iron. Umass to start 3rd with 1 and half minutes of power play.
Maine 4-1 end of 2nd
I like how Sirota is playing. He makes smart simple plays to keep the puck in offensive zone. He seems solid in his own end. Is playing point on the 2nd power play unit. Not bad for only joining Maine beginning of this semester.
