Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

I think Whitehead has gotten serious mileage out of his last few FF appearances in 04, 06 and 07, especially these last two. While he did validate the 2004 season with a HE title and a win vs BC in the FF, the 06 and 07 stuff is misrepresented IMO. Timmay really still is benefitting from the nice draws in 2006 and 2007, staying East and getting Harvard and St. Cloud in the first rounds and even getting 4th seed Umass in the 2nd round in 2007 (thanks Clarkson... ECAC!). The 2007 Maine squad was a 5th place HE team that got swept at UMA in round 1 of the HE tourney as well. And yet they were booking a trip to STL for a Frozen Four appearance.

Perhaps the worst is the contract extension after the moral HE title victory over BC in 2010. That team finished 2 games over .500 and didn't make the NCAAs but of course they got to the HE title game via a narrow 3-game best of win at Alfond over Lowell (game 3 was an OT winner) and a win over BU (1 game over .500) before losing to BC in overtime at the Garden.

The problem is though, if they would have gotten rid of Timmy who would've been the coach? The grass isn't always greener, and can any Maine fan honestly say they would have been comfortable with Blake James making the hire?

Maine had an incredibly easy draw in 2007 but not 2006. Most people actually picked Harvard to beat them. Both the 2006 amd 2007 teams had quite a bit of talent but neither did as much as they could have during the regular season.

I thought the folks in this thread had settled on Zombie Shawn Walsh.

Not that any of you care, but: http://t.co/8ig0JpBQ

Regarding your tumblr post ( which is just the kind of stuff a bright guy like you should be posting on here)
How many penalties has Joey drawn this season??? Not that power played really matter yet, but...

Also if you had seen the team in person, you might mention Cerratan for one of your captaincies... He and leeen are the only 2 forwards who can skate like a d1 player

And I do agree to toss this season and play the youngsters so that Maine might win a few games two years from now

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Priceless loses all credibility when he suggests that you should switch Cornell for Norman..........and what defines leadership? Priceless would have us believe that skating aimlessly and not scoring is better than playing physically, blocking shots, being a leader in dressing room, classroom etc.... Tim's system or lack thereof is to blame....How do you explain the power play, Rutt, Hutton, O'Connor Pryor are the points...how is that working for you?

Heads up high guys. I am sure we will win 10 games this year. Absolutely sure of it !

I did check on this mans record at Dubuque this afternoon. He's slipping as their record now is a paltry 15-3, having lost to the USNDT team 2-1 in an overtime shootout. I'm not sure he's up to the task.

Hey I would like to see Jim Montgomery as the next Umaine coach as much as the next UMaine fan. But I was told something about Mr. Montgomery's that may keep him from becoming a coach at UMaine. Really hoping it wasn't true, has anyone else heard anything?

Yep....you are correct, CenMEblackbearfan....I cannot believe it took this long for this to come up....it is what probably got him out of college hockey(as an asst.), and surely will come up if Maine tries to hire. And i to would want him here, but heard same thing. Also, I am new here, but have enjoyed reading all the info as a blackbear fan.

You heard the same thing? The same thing that he didn't even mention what it was?? What are you, clairvoyant?

I hate gossip!

walrus - check out the Dubuque Fighting Saints USHL website, and guess who's working as Montgomery's "goaltender consultant" ... :)
I understand that but that doesn't mean he is there. He works via videotape, skype etc

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Worst....start....ever...

Larry Mahoney said:
Maine is now 0-4 in Hockey East and 1-8 overall, including six straight losses, and 0-4 in Hockey East.

Maine’s previous worst start in Hockey East was 0-3 in the 1985-86 season. Hockey East’s inaugural season was 1984-85.

The Black Bears are also 0-5 at home. This matches the second-worst home start in program history, tying the 1981-82 team. The record is six.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

The empirical evidence is clear: this program has hit rock-bottom, on ifs ands or buts... To argue otherwise is insane.

What'd they say on the broadcast yesterday, worst start since Semler back in 1981 or something, and 0-5 in HE, worst ever. You can't say TIMMAY hasn't produced a lot of "firsts" while at Maine.

I think his point is really to play the young guys and give them all the experience possible

I agree Cornell is a decent defenseman, but giving an underclass man experience might salvage the season two years from now... No point in trying to salvage this one

Do tell
Is it ethanol related?

So he'd just stand behind the bench doing nothing? Can't be any different than what we've got now. Might be better, cause at least he'd let out a "Grrrr" or an "arrrgh" once in a while in the direction of the officials

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Does anyone think that it's an actual possibility that TW gets fired mid season?(maybe if the team loses the next couple of games) Or is that a complete reach? I think Corkum could take over for the rest of the year...
