Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

I count two first Rd draft picks (Hayes & Matheson) and never said they don't have some excellent players, it's just that they lack scoring depth at Forward and are inexperienced on defense. Sure they are 5-1, but they haven't exactly played the toughest schedule to date with their opponents having a combined record of 6-16-2. Again, not saying they aren't a very good team, but at this point of the season, I don't think it was a stretch to think that Maine could have pulled off the upset on their home ice and the fact that they "came close" is hardly reason for a celebration.

There aren't many teams who wouldn't change rosters with Boston College in a heartbeat. College hockey is a game, unlike football, that upsets happen because the difference between winning/losing is a bad bounce or bad penalty. Dont underestimate how difficult winning in Orono is due to the travel, etc. Good win for them considering the target that program wears on its back every time they take the ice

I agree with everything you just said, I just don't think Maine fans should be feeling good about "almost" beating BC at home.

You'll feel better after Maine annihilates UNH tomorrow. Take it to the bank.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Maine still has 30 or so games left, they'll get better as the season goes on and wind up somewhere between 15 and 20 wins.

I really hope you're joking? Assuming Maine doesn't make the NCAA or HE Tourney's, they have about 28 games left, which means to reach 15-20 wins they would have to go 14-14 at worst or 19-9 at best. With your only win 8 games in being a nail biter at home vs Army, do you really see things panning out that way?

so, lemme get this straight, you are the guy who says Brown will win the NCAA championship, AND you want us to believe you when you say maine will beat UNH.

ok...
isn't that sort of like Bill Clinton asking us to believe all the things he is saying about Obama, after losing his law license for lying under oath ?

When can I sign up for the BU hockey team "how to treat a lady" seminars that you are hosting?

I do not think the current players see much of a target.
None of them remembers Maine in 99 and none of them were born when Corkum played there.
They current players DO, however, remember when they played in good junior leagues while the Maine black bears were playing for the Manchester Monarchs.... and the current players know what that means.

I just think UNH is painfully overrated and will come into Orono with a false sense of bravado. This could be "Maine's last stand" with their rival coming into Alfond and a chance to salvage a crap season.

I don't see how going .500 the rest of the way is that great. Maine will get better as the season goes on and they get healthier.

They're might be a few dopes who feel "good" about a loss but I think most of us see the hand writing on the wall. Maine will get better as season goes along but this season is over as far as National chances are concerned. 10 wins is doable, maybe a few more if Marty plays like he did last night in every game.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Maine looked better last night, but were still painfully over matched. Whitehead didn't argue either of the two goalie interference penalties. Freshman line looked good. Beattie and Parker's return will help, but still lacking defense. Hutton is the beat dman on squad. Nemec steady and has improved big time. Oullette played well, two of three goals were rockets that were screened from point.

The #1 team in the country is always going to have a target on their back. Furthermore, with the 3 titles recently and the beatings they have put on most teams in the league over a long period of time, everyone in this league is going to bring their A game for BC and wants to knock them off. I'm not sure if anyone else wears a target on their backs like BC throughout the country.

It's not the "almost beating them" it's the way they played. They had some jump in their step, were agressive with and without the puck, and were generating chances in the offensive zone. At the same time, the defense was not the pylon turnover machines that they have been all season, they played a pretty strong game. As did the goaltender.

Wasn't enough to beat BC, but compared to the games they'd played up to this point it was a marked improvement. Timmay must've turned the practices over to Bobby this week.

I agree, there were a lot of positives to take away from the game, many quality scoring chances, much tighter d zone coverage, puck movement was crisp, much better effort everywhere. I think we won more battles than any game I've seen this year. Feeling much better now than after last weeks sad display.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

The last NCAA title in that group was 9 years ago. Bad example.
Sorry but any time a team plays thes 3 they play there "A" game...meaning anytime you play these 3,they want to beat them in the worst way...get it.
