Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Not good. Gotta wonder if having Joey Diamond on the ice for the latter 2 1/2 periods would've been worth one goal, esp. given all the PP time. Love to hear from someone there how bad the hit was? He's still gotta know better.

Def not even a penalty, was as bad a call as the 'infield fly' last night

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Diamond play was right in front of me and I don't even know what the call was. The Q player stuck his elbow out and Joey checked him. Wasn't boarding, might have been charging but it wasn't a 5 from what I saw.

Shore looked good, gonna take some time though. I thought Hutton played well on D. Didn't notice Merchant. Shemannsky missed a wide open net, awful shot, nice set up by Higgins. Higgins watched the Q player skate in from the redline to score their first, not sure what he was thinking but he never touched the guy the whole way in.

Maine looked good in the first and not so good the rest of the game. Offense is awful, PP is worse. Sully was good but still didn't catch a puck. Beattie looked lost and whined alot to the refs.

I hate losing to an ECAC team

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Maine played very well in the first period. Showed some great skating ability and brought the puck out of the defensive zone numerous times. The score could easily have been 3-0 at the end of one period. Puck hit the post once and a ton of shots on goal. Second and third periods were very disappointing as was Diamond's behavior. The team's leading scorer remaining from last year is not on the ice when the team needs him the most. So much for being a captain and demonstrating leadership. Not many games will be won scoring only one goal. I think the freshmen looked good but it will take some time for them to adjust to division 1 hockey.

Nemec is apparently putting a hitting show on which I thought whitehead didn't like a lot of :D... .

you mean the hitting show that ended as soon as Maine went into the dressing room after the first period???

I think Timmy had something to say about it... cause it stopped... the hitting show, that is

and so it begins.
from all accounts, it was not a hit from behind, I was watching online, and I did not see a dirty shot, but I am jaded and think that Joey is just fine
the online broadcast did not have replay.

How many years are left on TIMMAY's contract?........I've lost track of all of the extensions.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

This is a very disappointing loss, but not a shocking one.

I didn't foresee any offense on the ice this year, and Sully was what, 16 for 18..? I'm not knocking the kid as a human being, but an .888 save % is not gonna cut it as a D-1 goalie, and that is where he lives. It was laughable to read that Tim considers the 'tending to be deep. Good God.

Another long year ahead; I just hope that Maine wins the games that I travel to see. I'll guess that the over/under for victories is around 13.

Diamond didn't deserve 5 minutes.

I think their are 2 years left on his contract

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

Wow, I can't believe I'm reading you all think Diamond's hit was clean. It was a hit from behind and he deserved the 5 min. major. First game of the season and he can't even make it to the third period.

Pathetic. We've all made excuses for Diamond long enough........at some point you need to learn from your mistakes and make better decisions. He just doesn't seem to get it........has the word "selfish" written all over him.

You're entitled to your opinion.

Saw the play happening and knew he was setting up for a big hit,not withstanding that it was Diamond...imo 9 times out of 10 had it been someone else other then #39 they would have got Ejected...especially being the 1st game...they(Officials)tend to be strict/and it was Contact to the Head...either way can't do anything about it now...it's a tough lost and you have to Credit Quinnipiac as they weathered Maine's attack the first 12-14 minjutes of the 1st period...then from there on in their were in Maine's face after that...giving them hardly any room to flow thru...Maine's hitting was where it should be in the 1st period then it just went away...

DAMM! If you can't beat Quinipiac at home, then what cream puffs CAN you beat? Maybe start scheduling New England College as an annual OOC game, don't they got a hockey team or something?

4338 for the season opener. Oh, don't tell me... the weather was bad. No wait, it was fall break... the balcony was full.

Someone gave me tickets for yesterday and I'll never turn them down unless I have a game of my own. I just don't know why people pay to go watch Maine hockey anymore, especially at the price. Football tickets should cost more than hockey tickets.

8-25-3 is my guess for this year.

Thank god UM Football kicked Delaware's *** yesterday. A 26-3 win in Newark is really impressive, despite the way the Hens played.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

You really all need to stop making excuses for Diamond. Anyone that has seen him play for one shift knows he's a dirty player. There's a BIG difference between getting under someone's skin (i.e. Gerbe & Gionta) and being dirty (i.e. Prestin Ryan & Diamond). As someone else pointed out, there's a reason he's at Maine and not at BC or Michigan.

Re: Maine 2012 - The Good, the Bad, or the Ugly??

The bottom line on Joey is with the depth/youth issues up front, he needs to be on the ice, not in the locker room, and he has to adjust his game to make sure that happens. The coaching staff has to help him find the line where he can do without losing his game.

He's a 47 point guy that causes all kinds of problems behind the net with the puck. A Maine team that will struggle to score needs him there, not in a premature shower. Its one thing to get a few unnecessary minors, whatever they'll live with that, but putting himself in position to get run from the game in the opener....its just not good no matter how you color it.

OMG, Gionta and Gerbe were both as dirty as they come, especially Gionta
