Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Unless BC gets healthy soon, I think pretty much anyone in the league can beat them, even at Conte. Down to 5 D-men, 4 of which are freshmen, without their leading goal scorer (Whitney) and another top forward in Hayes. Reminds me of 2002 when Maine clobbered another undermanned BC squad in the quarter finals.

2002 Maine was good, not the case now

God, I miss Walshy. Hockey East was a much more interesting place when he was part of it, for better OR worse.

Thanks Chuck. Every season we unfortunately miss him, and his drive, and his intensity, and seeing his teams carry that onto the ice game after game, more and more.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Did I give them an ovation? **** straight I did. Everytime I talk with Tyler I swear I have gone back 20 years, he looks and sounds so much like his dad. On Friday night I was reminiscing with his mom about times in the old hockey office (which is now WIH). They are both special people and deserved a better reception from the Maine faithful.

I realize the reputation I have with many of you. Some have gone so far as to say I hated him. You don't understand how much he meant to me and how disappointing it was when the NCAA violations came to light. I try to remember the man I knew but admit those cloud my perspective...as does the blind hero worship I see here on a regular basis. He wasn't a hero. He was a man capable of great deeds and horrific acts. He did not pull someone from a burning building or rescue a friend pinned down by sniper fire. He was a hockey coach. Remembering that does not mean I hate him.

All well for the most part but i think u need to rethink the word " horrific acts" Ncaa sanction's are not in any realm to what a horrific act is. Also his moral inefficiencies as you seem to no so much about pale to what a "horrific act is".
Rape, murder, animal abuse or what I call horrific acts. Easy on the drama, where not writing for TMZ.

Also I and I think many others know shawn was not perfect but non of us are and hero's to which shawn is for many of us, usually do have flaws which draw us into them more. Look at history and who are considered Hero's, they tend to have many flawes. If it came out shawn was a unfaithful in his marriage, did some blow it's not going to cause me to lose my respect for the man as we are all flawed but if he did some horrific acts then....

Stop it Chuck! You and I have been reduced to very few posts but the only reason you miss Walsh is to crucify him. Priceless know one should deify him, but on the other hand he was the best G.D. hockey coach we will ever see. And K.I.A. if Monty were to take over, and I hope he has that opportunity, I still don't see Grant even as the volunteer coach. I love Grant but he did bring us Jeff Marshall, Wes Clark, Simon Denis and lots of other mediocre recruits at the end. This years freshmen class is the best we have had since Nyquist, Abbot, and Flynn. And next year actually looks good too!

As for next weekend in Durham we will need at least a split as I do expect UMASS to split with a fading Merrimac team.

Well, that was fun at times too, admittedly. :D He was probably the best "big-game" coach HE has ever seen, and the beautiful thing about it was Walshy would always seem to find a way to let you know that. Flawed for sure ... self-promoting and egotistical, check, lightning rod for attention of all sorts, check, always looking for edges - even where he shouldn't have been (anyone remember "retroactive financial aid"?), gamesmanship galore, etc. ad nauseum. But never boring, not for a single second. His players would run through walls for him, and I don't think he ever coached a team that underachieved. I'm 100% serious when I say he's missed badly at the WIS Estate. Call it posthumous respect for a fallen competitor, or whatever, but I think most of you guys knew my grudging respect for Walshy's accomplishments well before he passed. Love him or not love him ... definitely one of a kind, no one else has since come close.

Brian Flynn played his first two games in the NHL yesterday and tonight. He had 13 shifts (8+ minutes) against the Devils yesterday, and 18 shifts (just under 13 minutes) against the Rangers tonight. No points. plus-minus was zero.

I agree that the freshmen are the best incoming class in a long while, but I have to wonder just why it was that Jimmy and Grant sent Morris to Maine in the first place.

kinda makes ya think.

No standing O for the Spartan Princess Ex-Wife?!?!?

I'm a Tim Whitehead fan........not a Tracy Mason fan. Priceless's heroine worship of her borders on bizarre.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Anyway........back to UM hockey. I think that the team performed really well this weekend. Remember, Northeastern was still playing for something as well. I think that Whitehead will have the troops ready this weekend and Maine will get the split down in Durham. UMass will get swept by Merrimack anyway.

Go Black Bears!

And for god sakes Abbott.........give Coach Whitehead an extension! We are going to lose recruits if he doesn't get a new extension.........opposing coaches will use that to their advantage.

The Maine facilities are named for her husband and their son is on the Maine team but she's a Spartan Princess. OK then...
