MAC Hockey 24-25

MAC hockey was announced quietly this week as an AQ league for 24-25. Article says the member schools will be pulling out of the UCHC. Geneseo and Brockport are entering the UCHC in 24-25.

Again, people called me crazy but I have said this shift was coming.

I don’t think anyone called you crazy. This was inevitable. The worst kept secret in college hockey.
 
It’ll be interesting to see how this affects UCHC Women’s hockey as Brockport and Geneseo don’t have women’s teams. Maybe the UCHC accepts Hilbert as the 6th team? I’m figuring Utica will leave to go D1.

Smart move for Stevenson I think they just guaranteed themselves an NCAA bid for the next few years until some of these other schools catch up. Feel sorry for any team that has to play their playoff game in that community center of a rink

Seems like the UCHC gets better here by dropping 4 of their bottom 5 teams, while also adding Geneseo and Brockport (and maybe others)

Utica and Geneseo would be a good battle if Utica stays, which I’m not counting on.
 
Wilkes and Neumann will be moving to the MAC. Utica is gone in 2025 mark my words. Buffalo state and Fredonia are the leaving the sunyac. They did not get into the empire 8 so they would need to be voted into UCHC.

Getting into the Empire 8 has nothing to do with getting into UCHC for hockey. Every school who tries to get into the UCHC has to be voted in.

Fredonia - long shot but maybe to protect them when Utica moves in 2025. Also, helps with travel partner with Chatham
Buffalo State - didn’t get into emp 8 but adding them would make sense given the schools location.

This gives 8 on each side but we all know Utica will be gone soon. So it would give 7 into the UCHC and 8 into the MAC. The one thing I could see is Elmira coming back into the UCHC. They are already struggle with enrollment and financials so this move would keep their travel in NYS. Could see that happening in 2025

According to their own press release, Wilkes and Neumann aren't going to the MAC, at least at first

"Men’s ice hockey will include Alvernia, Arcadia, King’s, Lebanon Valley, Misericordia, and Stevenson while Alvernia, Arcadia, Hood, King’s, Lebanon Valley, and Stevenson will compete in women’s hockey"

Wilkes is leaving the MAC conference as a full member...
 
Why would the MAC want Wilkes who ditched them as an affiliate when they have what they need for an autobid already?
