LSSU Lakers 2020 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2020 off-season thread

Does anyone know if we make one or two Alaska trips in 2020-21? I know the Lakers will travel to Alabama Huntsville.

Seriously? Why was trump praising China and the WHO on how well they were doing fighting the virus? All the protesters in Lansing and not one would get out of the safety of their car to protest and you want me to believe they would bravely going back to work if trump ordered them they could. Hell, they would stay home with gloves and mask on hiding under their beds.

I get that you don't like Trump. I just think you're way over the top with it.

I haven't heard anything. Normally the scheduling is kind of finalized by the time they finish up the annual coaches meeting in Florida in late April. There is normally some schedule juggling still going on at that meeting. I don't know if they are doing some kind of conference call or on line session as a substitute for the meeting this year.

I think they play Fairbanks 4 times next year. They only play Anchorage 2 games and I believe those are in the Sault.

If the conference’s schedule rotation holds, the league matchups would be the same as 2016–17. Fairbanks on the road, both Alaskas at home, Huntsville home & away. But, who knows if there will be any twists.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2020 off-season thread

Everyone is confused if there will even be a season come the fall .

Re: LSSU Lakers 2020 off-season thread

If we have a 2020-21 season, I see that Great Lakes State Weekend is tentatively scheduled for Oct 30-31 and the hockey opponent is supposed to be UAA.

Guessing that is the first home weekend of the season?

I don't know. This past season they played Merrimack at home prior to the Great Lakes State Weekend series against Denver.

The schedule is supposed to be out in a couple weeks so we should know by then. Of course the schedule might have to be completely revamped if the NCAA decides to postpone the season until January. I would guess we won't know that until summer.

I wonder if Damon will try to get Long Island University to play at Abel Arena in their inaugural year like Arizona State did?

I posted this in the LIU thread, but could they be interested in Frank Anzalone? He’s a Brooklyn guy who took a small, upstart program to the promised land....

He's not as young as he used to be. I'm not sure if he'd be interested in a head coaching job any longer, or if LIU would even be interested in someone his age (66). They might want to go with a younger guy to build a program around.

Hard to say. A lot of scheduling occurs a couple of years out with mainly the dates needing to be finalized. The Lakers are supposed to go to Union this coming season so it's very possible Union may visit the Lakers the following season. If so, that would eat up a couple of non-conference games on that season's (2021-22) schedule.

Despite the early headlines, it seems that 2021-22 is most likely the first season for LIU, assuming they actually start a D1 program. At this time, they have no coach, no players and no schedule, so starting this Fall seems kind of far fetched. Possible I suppose, but it doesn't seem likely.

I am sure Anzalone is still Anzalone and that alone keeps him off the hiring list .
