LSSU Lakers 2020-21

First time since the 1992-93 season the Lakers have only one loss through the first ten games of a season.

Interesting to see Minnesota State will be coming in not playing last weekend due to Covid cancellations and the Lakers travel to Michigan Tech next weekend after Tech not playing two straight weekends because of Covid.

The Lakers stayed with Minnesota State pretty well but obviously need to start scoring more goals against the Mav before they can start beating them more often. Even 2-3 goals a game would give them that opportunity.

I liked the effort in the first game. That was an exciting game that a 3-0 final score doesn't really capture, especially since the Mavs scored late on a PPG goal with an empty net. I'm not sure I would have pulled the goalie in that situation.

I have few nice things to say about the second game. The shot differential 57-18 is really bad, and I don't think the Lakers belonged in the same building. Game 2 very easily could have been even more lopsided than 6-2. I'll stop there because I don't want to criticize any more than that, and I am really hoping it was just an off night.

Was LSSU already in Houghton last night or are they driving over today? I don't see the value in the hour delay unless they were getting new test results this AM and then hopping on the bus pending the all clear from most recent testing results coming in today.

Huge OT win. Calder with the GWG with 3.2 seconds left and Eisele with a win in his first start. Nice to have Laker hockey back!

Yep, nice win especially with 3 of our best players out. My guess is we'll see Langenegger in net tomorrow.

You guessed right. Sunday had such a thrilling ending despite the OT loss. I wish fans were allowed back at Abel Arena. They would have enjoyed seeing that action live.

Only one home series left. From the sounds of it, if things ease up and fans are going to be allowed at all, it would be capped at 250.

Hey Lakers! I'm a BG grad and fan of Falcon hockey, and I'm looking forward to our series this weekend.

Any insight into your team that you'd be willing to offer? I haven't gotten to watch any LSSU action yet this year, and I'm curious a bit about what to expect during our upcoming series. If anyone feels like giving out the scouting report, I'd love to hear it. Thanks! Good luck this weekend!

This year's squad is a pretty solid team with good goaltending, some talented skaters, and some clutch players. Ashton Calder has quickly become a fan favorite and is fun to watch and not just because he's a local kid from Sault Ste. Marie. Coming back from 3-1 with players out to send the NMU game to OT last Sunday showed the heart they have. But the difference between LSSU being a really good team rather than just a solid team has been the powerplay. The Lakers have been fairly awful on the PP, especially against any team not named NMU.

I'm looking forward to tonight to see how the Lakers match up with BGSU.

A few schedule adjustments from Lake State yesterday in case anyone missed them:

The Lake Superior State at Bemidji State series postponed from Jan. 29-30 will now be played March 2-3 at Bemidji State. Start times will be 7:07 p.m. ET on March 2 and 5:07 p.m. ET on March 3.

The Lake Superior State-Ferris State home-and-home series previously scheduled for Feb. 26-27 will now be played Feb. 26 at Ferris State and March 6 at Lake Superior State. The Feb. 26 game will begin at 7:07 p.m. ET. The March 6 game will begin at 3:07 p.m. ET.

Huge upset sweep this weekend against BG and by more than a few points.

Yes! Nice sweep by the Lakers and a great effort. It feels so good to go on the road and pick up two big games.

Did anyone else think the officiating tonight was quite poor? The repeated scuffles after the whistle were largely the result of refs not calling obvious penalties all night. I did enjoy the resulting 4-4 hockey after the scuffles, though. The Lakers really have some playmakers who get it done with the open ice.

Personally, I thought the officiating was above average. Two veteran guys that didn't call the numerous 1:00 to 1:30 minute restraining fouls that can bog down a good game between two solid teams. If they would've called all of the possible restraining fouls, there literally would've been 20 penalties. Seemed like the players played thru it for the most part and, the Lakers were better even strength anyways...
