LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I've been following the Laker hockey thread since Damon was hired.
Damon is the reason I started following the Lakers and reading the thread.
It really doesn't make any difference to me whether LakerBaker cuts and pastes articles.
This is the only place I see the information he posts and I don't have the resources, time nor inclination to hunt elsewhere.
I also could care less what LakerBaker thought of the previous coach or coaches.
Imho LakerBaker is posting interesting information.
The folks wasting their time on here hating on LakerBaker (haters are gonna hate) may want to consider leaving LakerBaker alone or ignoring his posts and directing their energy to supporting Laker hockey in a more constructive manner.
It's humorous that you think I'm LakerBaker posting under another name.
If it makes anyone feel better chasing that baloney feel free to continue however it's just more time wasted instead of promoting Laker hockey.

When you made your first post, you immediately raised red flags by defending LakerBaker. I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that perhaps you weren't LakerBaker or a friend of LakerBaker (and were just someone new the forum). On the other hand, I realized that you might be. On the chance that you are not LakerBaker or a friend, then if you are trying to separate yourself from LakerBaker, defending LakerBaker's posts isn't helping your cause.

If you've been following the Laker hockey threads since Damon was hired (as you said), you should already be aware that LakerBaker spent a good portion of last season trashing Damon so why are you trying to defend LakerBaker now? Don't you realize that makes it look like you are in LakerBaker's camp?

If you happen to be a fan of another team (perhaps where Damon was an assistant) and are just interested in following Damon, why are you reluctant to mention the other team's name?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Thanks Tim and don't let "Bill" sway your opinion. For years he has played den mother on this forum, and likes to claim he is the leading voice on all things Laker hockey, and wants to shut down or silence anyone that disagrees with his "expert" opinions. His answer to everything is the "ignore" feature, yet he can't stop talking about it.

Damon Whitten is leading this team back to greatness and this forum is a place where people (of any opinion) can share opinions, information regarding Laker hockey, much to the apparent dismay of "Bill".

Randy Russon has the LSSU Laker off-season, and the world of local hockey covered like no one else on his websites www.hockeynewsnorth.com and www.saultthisweek.com and the Hockey North Show on Tuesday's at 5 p.m. on ESPN Radio Station 1400.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Read many of LakerBaker's posts this season.
I saw nothing negative in any that I read.
LakerBaker posted up a lot of things directly from the program.
All the ones I saw were positive towards the program.

Anyone who follows this thread knows his copying of others was mockery. I really enjoy everyone's posts, however I don't bother to read LakerBaker's posts. He on here to irritate everyone and I just won't let him irritate me.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Two more Laker commits have completed their seasons in Junior hockey. Owen Guy (Kemptville-CCHL) wound up the regular season with 27G and 24A for 51 points in 60 games. His Kemptville team lost to Ottawa 4 games to 0 in the 1st round of the CCHL playoffs. Guy missed the first 3 games, presumably due to injury, and then scored Kemptville's only goal in an OT loss in game 4. Will Gauthier, after scoring no points in 14 games for Brookings of the NAHL, was picked up by Kanata of the CCHL and wound up with 2G and 5A for 7 points in 13 games with Kanata before suffering a concussion and missing the last month of the season.

LakerBaker, you went almost an entire year bashing coach Whitten and intentionally misspelling his name. What was it that suddenly changed your opinion of him?

I think he's been asked similar questions before but he just ends up spewing his mularky. "I woke up in a free country man b.s. or some other crap.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Notre Dame will join the Big 10 for hockey in 2017-18. I think it's almost certain Arizona State will join the Big 10 in hockey as well to make it an even eight teams.

The Big 10 certainly didn't want to stay at 6 teams any longer than necessary. Notre Dame and Arizona State joining the Big Ten for hockey seems the most sensible/logical way for them to expand. Notre Dame joining Hockey East never made much sense to me and things weren't going as well there (NBC TV ratings weren't very good) as they expected. It seemed only a matter of time before they would look to join one of the more Western conferences. And Arizona State is a big school student and money wise, similar to the Big Ten schools in that respect, and needs a home (conference).

Suppose that means nobody (assuming they pick up ASU) in the Bi6 looks to be putting together a DI hockey program. Given that the Bi6 was allegedly formed to expand hockey and get other Bi6 schools to add hockey, figure that's got to be disappointing.

I think the formation of the Bi6 conference was pretty much an automatic thing once Penn State decided to add Div 1 hockey. That meant there were 6 Big Ten teams with Div 1 hockey programs which is what they needed to have their own conference and I think was the primary driver. I'm sure the Bi6 hockey schools would like to see other current Big Ten schools add Div 1 hockey, but I don't think that was what drove the formation of the Bi6. There have been rumors in recent years about other Big Ten schools like Nebraska (Lincoln), Iowa and Illinois possibly adding Div 1 hockey but so far it appears those are nothing more than just that, rumors. Near term, I think the Bi6 has been very anxious to expand beyond 6 teams and now it looks like they are doing that with addition of Notre Dame and probably Arizona State. Longer term, they are probably hoping that other Big Ten schools add hockey and join the conference.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

I see Notre Dame finally got tired of the huge travel cost it took upon by joining the Hockey East conference. I wonder what team next will jump leagues to cut down on cost. Miami. Western ? Arizona is joining the big ten along side Notre Dame and better there than with the WCHA I think.

Perhaps it wasn't a major reason, but there had to be the belief that other schools would add hockey. Given the longstanding policy of "no affiliate membership," growth would have had to come from within the conference. I know long-term growth is what they're probably looking at, but it's been five years since the announcement of the conference, and so far, nobody in the Bi6 appears to have budged. Of course I understand donors are typically responsible for getting a program rolling. Guess I would've thought to have seen something from within by now, but still appears to be nothing.

You have interpreted that rule wrong about the six teams. It means that you need a MINIMUM of six teams to have them go into conference play. It was Barry that pushed the issue.

Affiliate membership started when they let John Hopkins in for lacrosse. I read on other sites that many B6&7G fans are ****ed at the ND addition.

Yeah, having a big time donor to finance an arena is probably the biggest boost you can have to start a new Div 1 program; or if you have a suitable arena already available, that can work too. I think Arizona Sate still has to address the arena issue. They started their Div 1 program with an arena in place, but not a very suitable one for other than near term. I've seen that they have had discussions with the NHL Coyotes about a new joint arena, but I don't think that is their best option. It would likely mean a ton of empty seats for ASU games. Better for ASU would be a smaller arena in the 5-8,000 capacity range. There could possibly be some discussions going on within one or more other Big Ten schools about starting a Div 1 program. It's not something that the public would normally hear about until a school was actually ready to announce such a decision. Not sure how big the affiliate membership issue is anymore. John Hopkins plays lacrosse in the Big Ten.

Yeah, I didn't phrase it as well as I could have. I didn't intend to imply that they "had" to form their own conference once Penn State added hockey. But reaching the minimum of six teams did trigger the formation of the conference (with Barry's help :))

There is some speculation that Western Michigan and Miami might join the WCHA with Bemidji and Mankato joing the NCHC. It would definitely save on money and travel. I could see some Atlantic Hockey Schools added as well to make the WCHA 12 teams.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

New to the thread, big Laker Fan few questions….

1. Who are the new recruits coming in for next season?

2. Who is in the Sheliagh(sp?) tournament at ND next season? (Other than LSSU and ND)

3. Where do you put the Lakers in the WCHA next season. (I'm predicting a 4th place regular season finish)

Anchors away!

!. At a minimum, the new guys next season should include Luke Morgan (F), Bryan Basilico (F), Max Humitz (F), Collin Saccoman (D), and Kristofers Bindulis (D). Brendan McKay (F) will also likely be a a new guy next season; he was a red-shirt walk on this season and is the brother of Austin McKay. Cole Hults (D), brother of Mitch Hults, will be with the Lakers either next season or the following one. Brayden Gelsinger (F) may be with the Lakers at some point next season. And it's always possible there could be someone else we haven't yet heard about.

2. I'm not sure.

3. I'm not into making predictions but if the Lakers improve by even a handful of points next season they should be in the runniing for a first round home ice spot.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Is there anyone coming in that they think has a nice touch for scoring ?
