LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Split against MN. State at this point with such a young team as the Lakers have, gives the fans a lot of hope.

No doubt. We are in the midst of the toughest part (November and December) of the schedule of the season. If we can play .500 hockey during this period, Ill be happy.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Laker Dude, I didn't notice if Gage was hit with a high stick before that goal. The reffing was per usual very unconsistant. Mankato's coach was livid for most of the game so again neither team were very impressed with the zebras.

Yeah, I thought it was very inconsistent again this weekend. Teams probably don't know what to expect game to game at this point.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Garrett Nieto is back playing after being out with an injury. He posted a shutout last night for Wenatchee; granted he only faced 11 shots.

Nationally ranked! This winning stuff is fun. Let's hope we can keep up the momentum. Next week-end's games against MTU should be hard fought. Hoping for at least a split.

Three tough road series in a row coming up. After Tech is Ferris and after Ferris is Michigan. Hopefully they can come out of the next three weekends with no worse than a split of the 6 games.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

If the guys play with the intensity they did this past weekend there should be some good news coming out of Houghton. I attended the last 2 Friday night games and thought the guys did great. I think the win over MSU Friday night was one of the best games I have seen the Lakers play in a long time. Keep up the great play guys!

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Early signing period started today. Maybe we'll get a few NLIs over the next week from some of our younger commits, which would allow Damon to talk about them on the Laker Hockey Show.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Podcasts for both the Laker Hockey Show and the Laker Hockey Talk show from this week are out there now.

Here's hoping the Lakers play well at Tech and get at least a split.

If the Lakers play the way they did last weekend, they should get at least a split as long as Gordie plays well.

I didn't listen or watch the game. OUCH!! Was it poor goaltending by Defiel, bad defense or both? Do we see Defiel or Kossoff start tomorrow?

I only heard part of the game. I think Damon was mainly concerned with poor puck management. I also got the impression that Tech had a few pucks bounce their way on offense.

Michigan Tech got all the puck luck last night and methinks the good ship Laker will sail to victory tonight, man.

Lake Superior State fell 6-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday evening against Upper Peninsula rivals Michigan Tech.

The Huskies (5-6-2, 4-2-1 WCHA) opened the scoring late in the first period with a pair of goals, scored just 1:24 apart with under five minutes remaining in the period. Jake Jackson put MTU on the board with 2:42 remaining in the first period, stepping out wide past an LSSU defender and firing the goal past junior goaltender Gordon Defiel.

Moments later the Huskies scored their second goal with 1:18 remaining in the opening period. Chris Leibinger tallied his fourth goal of the season on assists from Thomas Beretta and Alex Smith.

The Huskies took the 2-0 lead into the locker room after the first 20 minutes, while outshooting the Lakers (6-3-0, 4-3-0 WCHA)by a 9-4 margin.

Tech got their third goal of the contest 3:31 into the middle period on a goal by Smith, for his second point of the game, assisted by Cliff Watson and Leibinger with his second assist of the game.

Freshman Gavin Gould scored his first career goal 2:34 into the third period to go up 4-0 before LSSU finally got on the board with their lone goal of the contest. Junior defenseman Kyle Chatham netted the Lakers' only goal, unassisted, with 7:48 left in regulation.

The Huskies added two more goals before the end of regulation, Jackson first with his second goal of the game followed by Gould's second tally, to cap the 6-1 victory.

Freshman Angus Redmond stood tall for the Huskies, making 24 saves on 25 shots by LSSU. Conversely, Defiel turned aside 24 of the Huskies' 30 shots on goal.

Game 2 of the weekend series is slated for 7:07 p.m. on Saturday evening from the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Ringy Dingy!
