LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Tell that to the NHL scouts that have been in attendance, man. Methinks you should be talking to others at the University, specifically the coach staff on the timing.

I have spoken to just about every scout in attendance, man. You know, since they usually sit right next to me.

I've talked to several scouts this year. He's definitely on some of their radar screens.

I talk to two on a regular basis on the Ontario side, and Owen has been and drawing a lot of attention, and now more eyes will be opened to the smooth skating defenceman from Garden River, Ontario.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Just because it's an NHL scout that's been talking to him, it doesn't mean they are NHL material. They scout for the whole organization.

Take the Red Wings. Most prospects don't jump right to the Wings. They'll either go to Grand Rapids or Toledo.

I'm not saying he is or isn't, just pointing that out.

Also, the plus side of this is that we've had some good defensemen sitting because there was a bit of a log jam. This should open a permanent spot for someone like Renz, which isn't a horrible thing. But the timing does seem ****ty. Why not leave during Christmas break? Give the team some time to deal with it, not the day before a series. It seems that Morale has been pretty low recently & this certainly won't help matters at all.

Methinks you should direct that question to head coach Damon Whitten this weekend or on the Laker Hockey Show.

As for this player leaving under his administration, Owen is reaching his full potential and chasing his dreams of playing professional hockey. Most of you would do the same, man.

I don't particularly care what the answer is, and save for, what, one person, nobody is saying that it was a bad decision on a personal level. He's getting paid, there's a longer schedule to get looked at & the team is in a pretty good spot to make a playoff run.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

If you have watched this team the last few months, methinks they aren't anywhere close to making a playoff run, let alone just making the playoffs, man. The good ship Laker takes a huge hit losing their best defenceman and one of the best in college hockey in Owen Headrick.

I was talking about Erie being in a playoff spot.

He'll flounder around in the Coast. Then maybe a stint in Europe. Then done. Horribly stupid decision on his part. Good thing you'll still be his #1 cheerleader though. Hope he pays you for all your exuberance MAN.

OH THERE IT IS... The winds of change are blowing and Baker is shifting his opinion. You should run for PM Man you'd get votes You tell everyone what they want to hear even if it's not the truth.

Obviously, but to put into context LakerBaker has become pretty much just a sarcastic troll so take that into consideration in any "discussions" you have with her/him.

Trust me, I know. That's why I didn't bother starting another discussion.

It is nice to see you once again waving the pom pon's for the Good Ship Laker. Hope it works out better for you this time, man.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Been gone for a day or two, have I missed anything?

All joking aside, I agree with Deman and CKrouth. The timing couldn't be much worse than it is. Hopefully defense injuries will not be a problem, as they've been lucky (minus Bindulis) on that end.

Maybe someday you'll actually be right about a "local" kid making it to the show. 0-30 since I've been keeping track. You may be the worst "Pro Prospect Picker" in the history of Sports, but hey MAN keep on doing what you do I find it entertaining. So for that Thank you MAN

Only 10 games left in the regular season so if we don't have injuries to more than one D-man at a time we should be OK from a numbers standpoint. We have 7 healthy D-men to close out the season.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Good luck to Owen in Erie. Hopefully things pan out for him there. If he can stay healthy, he could have a very bright future.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

This hurts with 10 games left. Sure is risky to give up on a free education given his lack of size and team low +/-. Guess he thinks he's got a shot at pro hockey even though he went undrafted. Good luck to him. He's an excellent skater and offensive D-man on the team. Erie's got a stacked team. Wondering if he'll crack the top 6 there.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Statement from Damon Whitten on Owen Headrick's decision to join the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. "After meeting with him this morning we understand his desire to pursue a different hockey path and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

+/- has a lot to do with what you are skating with and the competition you are playing. +/- for the Erie Otters will be a +.
His future playing time has been discussed all day in the Erie Otters unofficial fan page on facebook. I guess he will have to earn it during practice and during the first few games to see where he ends up. Our top 2 D lines are pretty good though.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

I wonder if there are any locker room issues at play here? His decision to leave the program this point in the season and the school year makes absolutely no sense. I thought grades might have something to do with this but was told otherwise by people close to the program. Yes I'm sure Erie offered him a full ride scholarship package that will pay for the remainder of his schooling but I think that offer was always on the table right from the very beginning...so again why now???? I really hope that we do not see an full on implosion of this team because of behind the scene issues.

Another good question to address to Whitten, as Owen is not the first to look for greener pastures, and methinks not the last, man.
