LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

The Lakers would have probably gottten home ice had they been playing in the Atlantic Conference . Right now this is not a very good team and it will most likely take getting rid of 20 players now playing for the team and you are talking a couple years of players playing out their remaining time before you see the full impact of Whitten's recruiting .

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

During Whitten's coaching career, minus one season as camera man for Comley, his teams were never above .500. With 8 victories in 36 games, leading the NCAA in losses, I'm not as confident as you seem to be. This same wait until next year excuse has been used by you, and many for the last 10. I think after one season Laker fans should expect a little bit better than finishing behind Alabama Huntsville.
Any serious sports fan knows that time spent as an assistant coach doesn't count as part of a coaches official W-L record. If you're honest, you have to admit the cupboard was pretty bare when Roque was fired. No returning goalies with any experience. Very little returning experience on defense. Not much scoring punch returning. New coach with a new system. What were you expecting, a miracle?

By the 2016-17 season, the majority of the team will be Whitten's recruits although there will still be some Roque recruits on the team. Some of the Roque recruits will likely do fine under Whitten's system.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

Kevin Aldridge decided to leave the team on his own, and it's no secret that it was because he wasn't impressed with Whitten's leadership. I wonder if this will effect that future of the Laker Hockey golf outing at their family course?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

According to Section P in the 2015-16 Schedules thread, it sounds like the non-conference games with NMU will be October 16-17 with the Friday game at NMU and Saturday's game at Abel Arena. It will be Great Lake State Weekend as well which is odd since there's just one home hockey game that weekend.

That is what is listed on the LSSU website.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

I'm a serious sports fan Bill, even if I don't follow your self valued opinion.

How long have you been on here saying "wait until next year" now about 10 years? Anyone can look at your posts and see for themselves. You define your own term "Roquette".

I think it is relevant to see where someone has coached, in any capacity, and how those teams performed. You may not, the ad and hiring committee didn't, I do.

I expected more than leading the nation in losses, having the worst power play, and outperformed by Alabama Huntsville.
I'm not much into making predictions so if you can point out some of those specific posts where I indicated how much better the team was going to be "next year" and how many places up in the standings they would finish, feel free to do so. I can't take credit for coming up with and defining the term Roquette. Another Laker fan did that; I just borrowed it. If you don't want to make a distinction between coach and assistant coach when it comes to performance, that is your choice. Just be aware that the vast majority of fans do, regardless of sport.

If Ron Fogarty had been hired as Laker coach instead of Damon Whitten, as many fans thought might happen, would you have been just as critical of him? He didn't exactly have a stellar first season record at Princeton. Their record was 4-23-3. Not quite as many losses as the Lakers, but they also had 4 fewer wins. And I'm not criticizing Ron Fogarty. He didn't have much to work with at Princeton either. It takes time to see what a new coach can do with a program; certainly more than one or two seasons. I think your expectations for this season were unrealistic.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

You block people on twitter and get post deleted here. What happened to your belief in free speech EH?

Why did you delete your post last night about players being "cut",which strangely coincided with with the laker fan nation tweet last night. Did you forget which usho handle to use?

Is it true Dunbar wants the "Laker Fan Nation" Twitter page deleted?

She doesn't like answering questions does she?

If your opinion was actually based on being a fan you may have a point. Unfortunately, your petty, vindictive "opinions" as a "fan" are based on the fact your connection to the program is longer there. Therefore, you are bitter that you are no longer an "insider" and now you are trying your best to embarrass the new coaching staff, AD, and school.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

Outsider trolling.
IMHO it doesn't matter what the old coach did or didn't do. That's the past and can't be changed. It is what it is.
New coach comes in and wants what he thinks will make the team successful.
That would be to whatever his expectations are for physical fitness.
Play whichever way he wants you to play.
The guys he brings in he thinks will be up to his expectations.
If you are a team veteran you either are better than what coach brings in or you're cut.
Put the players you think will bring you success over several years on the ice.
These aren't Mites and everybody gets a trophy.
Coach either reaches a certain level of success or he's out of a job.
For the time he had between his hiring and season start and the players he had to work with it would appear that he did a pretty good job.
A throw away year?
Not the way I see it.

Now, now, Seawolf Fan, don’t start trying to claw your way out of the damage and unjust you caused the ideal players “YOU” cut. It was unwarranted.

Staying afloat in the sea will be an arduous task for you and cautionary measures should be applied if you don’t want to create sea enemies, if you haven’t already done so.

It’s very lonely succumbing to floating in a pond instead and among the pond scum.

YOU, Aubrey and Metro should hang your heads in shame.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

If one wishes to compare the Lakers record with that of Princeton, he or she should also factor in that Princeton only played 30 games versus 38 for LSSU.

Speaking of nothing I was just talking about, I have been in the process of putting together a hockey puck collection of every school that was ever a member of the CCHA. While some pucks have been much easier to find than others, I have managed to find most of the pucks I need. I am curious if anybody on here ever came across a Kent State puck, as that one has remained particularly elusive.

Oh Asid now don't get all bent out of shape about opinions that don't fit what you are told to say. You do a great job defending Whitton and a 8-28-2 record, and I'm sure it will be noticed on here by your superiors.

Talk to you folks at the start of the 2015-16 season 😃
Has coachlakerbakerfan said anything that is incorrect?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

A couple of our key incoming recruits are still involved in their league playoffs. Chilliwack (Jake Hand) won their last playoff series and is awaiting to see who they will play next in the BCHL. Same goes for Pembroke (Anthony Nellis) in the CCHL. Our incoming USHL guys are still involved in the regular season, which lasts quite a bit longer than other Junior A leagues.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

So the off season is rolling with the name Whitten replacing Roque in the hate posts. Same results 20+ years. The program's problems go much deeper than the name on the coach's door. Yes, funding has improved slightly over the last few years. But that effect doesn't happen overnight. If they aren't at the bottom of the league, they are close to it. Fund the bottom of the barrel, you get the bottom of the barrel. One poster (likely another Roquette multi personalty person with multiple personalities) says Whitten has to get another goal scorer. Do you really think those high end guys have LSSU at the top of their lists? Tech got Kero because it's home to him. Pietila has deep family ties. A few years back, NMU had the Olvers & Florek. The Olvers father was a buddy of the coach and then was an assistant himself. Florek, like Kero, was a home town boy. Got many of those 20+ point guys in the Soo? One trip to town, a tour of the rink, a look at "Dirty Jobs" Soo Locks episode and a ride up the tower to see Canada and the Johnny Gaudreau's will be lining up to come here!

You make some good points. We hear the same stuff quite often from a segment of fans. I'm sitting here, line charts in hand, at the Resch Center in Green Bay for a USHL between Green Bay and Muskegon. Each team has a half dozen or fewer players uncommitted. And none of them looked like potential high end guys. No first liners. No top pair D. Of the committed players, there may be 3 or 4 committed to WCHA schools between the two teams. The answers look easy if your Joe SixPack sitting at the Downtowner in the Soo or the Third Base in Marquette. But it's not. Look at Tech, Bowling Green and Minnesota State. Do you think the rise these teams have made over the past five years has anything to do with great increases in support they got from their booster, alums and institutions?

I give you credit for not disagreeing with anything coachlakerbakerfan said in his post.
