LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

I won't be renewing my season tickets. I was waiting to see how the coaching search played out. I don't know if Joe would have been the best man for the job. But he would at least rank on the same plane as Whitten when it comes to the interview process. There may be reasons behind not giving him a shot and money could be one. Did he ask for a number that would cover not only him leaving NMU, but his wife having to give up her job there as well? Go ahead LSSU. Get the cheapest guy with the cheapest staff. Keep running it on the cheap and wonder why you're falling behind Huntsville in a few years! I'll be watching the Eagles and Greyhounds.

... and the implosion begins!

Thanks CKrouth. Good information. Could you list the committee members that represent the community or do they wish to remain annonymous? It would be good to know those that are from the Sault area that have no affilliation or monetary interest in the University i.e. adjunct professors, team medical personnel, LSSU regents, students etc.Thank you.

The only one I can comment on is Dr. Pete Scorniecki, who is representing the Blueliners. Im not sure if the committee is 100% public knowledge so I cannot comment on the others.

College students for the most part are just passing through the Soo . The people who actually live there and will retire there, that is the group who have the most interest in who the coach is and how the team does. Students leave after their schooling is over. Town people have to deal with a bad team for years if the right changes are not made. Drive away the town people and the stadium will be an empty building for most games .

Drive away the town people and it will be the end of the program period! Refusing to give Joe Shawhan at least an interview smacks of backroom politics and personal vendettas and certainly leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth. On the flip side, however, Shawhan is not the be all and end all savior and hiring someone like a Fogarty (my frontrunner now that Shawhan is no longer in the running) can turn this moribund thing we've been calling Laker Hockey back around into something respectable again. Do not lose hope just yet.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Yet another new screen name Mrs Roque? How many is that now? As for Joe Shawhan, he is pretty well liked and respected in the Soo hockey community by far more than his relatives. And if I remember correctly, didn't he leave LSSU for NMU to continue coaching college hockey? But don't let the facts stand in the way of a rant.

Well, if Knfhockeyfan is Mrs. Roque, then Pink Pony is Coates, Section P is Dunbar and you, RapidsCity, must be Bouvet!

I don't think there will be an implosion. Anyone will be better than your Jim Roque. We just think the best would have been Joey Shawhan but regardless of the fact the community as a whole want him, it is too soon for the Roque's campus community and faculty base that runs the decisions at LSSU. Too bad for sure.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

This week there are only the first 2 interviews, as Craig has stated. Before jumping to conclusions, lets see how this plays out.

I've heard that Randy Russon has a lot of sources but his information isn't always accurate, so I don't know if we can be sure yet that Shawhan isn't going to be interviewed. If he isn't, there could be a number of reasons why and we don't know what they are at this point.

To start talking about no longer attending Laker games at this stage is tantamount to me saying I'm taking my toys and going home. We need to give the new coach a chance regardless of who it may be.

Well said. Let's all take a breath, step back and objectively look at the situation as it is. Eight years ago a rather mercurial Laker coach was fired and his top assistant was given the job. There was no interview, no hiring process and no search committee. An A.D. who was on his way out after bumbling his way through simply handed the job to Jim Roque. Eight years later, a rather incompetent and under-achieving Laker coach was fired. Immediately a decision was made to strike up a search committee. This newly formed committee was placed under the auspices of an extremely respected former hockey coach with over 3 decades of coaching experience, not to mention two national championships under his belt. The committee, through due diligence, initiated an application process that has thus far garnered some rather interesting and intriguing candidates. One of those candidates, Fogarty, has been a proven winner and has received high praise for the work he has done at Adrian. More applicants are currently being vetted and surely more will be interviewed.
Eight years ago, there was no process leading to disasterous results. A floundering program was finally put under by a coach who simply could not coach nor deserved the job he was handed. Eight years later there is a process that will no doubt bring about a qualified candidate who can do the job. We all asked for the powers that be to do this hiring the right way. They have done right and I am very optimistic as to what the end result will be.

Bill, to me you make the most sense of anything posted here in the last month.
Good luck in the Laker Coach search.
Hope you have success.
Just sticking my nose where it has no business.
So no need to tell me to get lost.
I'm outta here.

Did Shawhan even apply?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Dunbar is not popular in the Sault for other reasons that don't involve Laker hockey. This fiasco is definitely not helping her cause!
