Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

From Lakers hockey alumni.

That is untrue. I've heard it's not Laker Hockey alum at all, and that there has been a delay in LSSU receiving any money from this donor ...

Actually, I heard that this money is going to fund the start-up JV basketball program at Lake State.

Isn't the Pink Pony a bar on Mackinac Island? I once heard it's a favorite place for fundraising, especially frequented by Lake State staff!

I call bull**** on one of those.

Hammer I have noticed in the past you saying that Fogarty would not take the Laker job he was waiting for something bigger.

Do you know this as fact or as it being your opinion? I'm just wondering and since I read your reply I figured I would ask.

Is that where Doug Weights doner money went.

You tell me where Doug's money is. You seem to be on the inside. It seems that Doug gave that money over a decade ago, so it must be spent otherwise they would have renovated with it.

Shepler's comes in at the other end. Arnold is closer to the Pink Pony. The Laker fans must be at the VI.

I'm pretty sure my bartender friend has seen certain Laker Staffers at the Pink Pony, tying one on, and flapping their lips about all sorts of things - fundraising mainly.

A good Island bartender sees no one, knows nothing. But still remembers what you drink next year!

So where are the big bucks going to come from? Take money back from the faculty salaries? That will be popular with the faculty that haven't had raises in 7 years. NOT!

I normally just browse and follow my alma mater's threads on here but this thread is too much - there is obviously a lot of wacky tobacco in the Sault. I was a tenured professor at Lake State and chose to leave Lake recently for a better place because of the fact that it is a glorified community college and was going downhill fast in many areas that have nothing to do with hockey. I went to Lake State Hockey Games as well as the Blueliner Banquet. There are NO SIMILARITIES between Union and Lake State. Union is an established wealthy high end university in a city center which is also the capital of the state of NY. Lake State can barely balance their budget every year and have operated at a deficit in some years. Lake State's endowment is nonexistent - Union's is enormous. Union turns away many in the Admission process - Lake State is begging for students. Union has beautiful campus housing - Lake State's is run down and old. Union Hockey is in the ECAC and their farthest away game is less than 4 hours away - Lake State is in the WCHA and busses to Alabama, Bemidji, Mankato, etc, you get the picture. In the Sault, the maximum security prisons are the largest employer - not in Schenectady. The State of Michigan has been in a world of hurt since the car industry crashed and Lake State relies on the state for funding - private schools do not rely on the state for funding. Yes, they both have hockey teams but in the year 2014 that is the only thing they have in common.

The renovation banner has been hanging on the Norris Center for 5 years! Another classless promotion by the foundation with no follow up!

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Two candidates will be on campus this week, Damon Whitten and Ron Fogarty.

Thanks Section P. I see that Joe Shawhan is not listed. I would find it hard to believe that we would interview an assistant coach from MTU with no Head Coaching experience who has applied for multiple USHL coaching jobs, multiple Division III Coaching jobs and multiple Division I coaching jobs and never been hired but not Joey who is from here and has turned down multiple USHL head coaching jobs. Is Joey coming in for an interview? May get ugly if we did not give him at least a chance.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Thank you for your perspective. There is a huge difference between LSSU and Union. Money is not everything but it's still a huge factor in D1 sports. I was talking to a friend of mine today and related your comments. His son is an investment banker in NYC. An associate of his in his firm is a Union grad and very successful. Several years ago, after a huge year he wanted to make a large donation to the Union hockey program and donated $50,000 in stock. Union held it and it turned out that it increased 10 fold to about $1/2 million. Supposedly, their new locker room bears his name. Outside of Doug Weight's generous gift years ago, we haven't seen much of that.

I doubt Lake State has any NYC investment bankers that want to give them money. That's called 'the rich get richer and the poor get poorer'
