LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

I would imagine that most now think it is time for a coaching change and that includes the people involved in that area at Lake State.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

I remember Bill Crawford mentioning during the final series that the Lakers' average attendance for this season was about 1700. However, this number does not necessarily speak to a lack of confidence in the Laker hockey program, as he also said the Eagles' average attendance was only about 500. When one looks at the numbers such as this, it may make somebody wonder if the Soo can support an NAHL and an NCAA Division I team.

Just food for thought.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

I did see Sault High play in the finals this past Saturday and they played the better game but the goalie for Farmington was just to on the mark.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

So if Roque is fired, I assume Tim Christian is the leading candidate to replace him. I wonder if Joe Shawhan would leave NMU to be head coach here?

It is quite unlikely that Roque be fired but it would be great to tie a yellow ribbon for Joe Shawhan. Tim Christian would not be a credible candidate.
What are chances of the Lakers firing Roque? Don't you think that the Administration has bigger fish to fry?
Chances are very small. Despite bigger fishes already in Roque's pan, the Pres will not allow his firing.

I think at this point from the AD to the President they all see falling numbers in the stands and a team tied to the bottom half of the league for years to come if something different isn't done soon . Roques first nine years hasn't been exactly a success and with fewer and fewer fans coming out to games, the school has to decide now if a new direction in coaching is needed.

One thing that a good administrator cannot easily overlook is the financial bottom line. And all those empty seats, and dwindling season ticket base, must surely grab attention. At some point, somebody has to ask the important question "What if the empty seats aren't just the depressed Soo economy?" At that point, maybe they'll look deeper at the issue and see a lackluster product with lackluster leadership producing lackluster results.

The administrators are awfully concerned with the financial bottom line. And all those empty seats in the classrooms are the financial bottom line and do grab a lot of attention. Empty seats in Norris equates to "other than that Mrs. Lincoln how was the night at the theater?

The important question is "is having a D1 hockey team worth it?".

Be careful what you guys wish for.

Have not posted here in some time but it's like I never left. We are still re-hashing the same old tired arguments. The fact is, and make no mistake in that this is indeed a fact; Roque is simply not head coaching material. He is a very astute recruiter who has a fine eye for talent but his is the epitome of the Peter Principle. He was promoted above his competency level and the Laker program is where it is at in large part because of this. If the program is to be saved then he needs to be removed, promptly!
You are correct in that there is a danger in the administration simply throwing up their hands and pulling the plug on the program because despite Roque's low salary in relation to other D-1 coaches, he earns more than just about any prof and many of the administrators and his hockey program is bleeding the entire athletic program dry.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

I sent my e-mail to both the AD and the President this afternoon. In the past I have received responses to my letters and do expect one this time. Now will it make a difference? I don't know, but if I didn't send a letter I would not have any room to complain. It's a lot like if you don't vote you don't have any room to complain. Here is to them making the right decision for the Laker Hockey program.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014 off season thread

Another year another off season of excuses for you people up there. I waited to see how the year panned out, but to no one's surprise it was the same result, and exactly as I had expected. The same excuses, the same decent start followed by a second half collapse, the same inconsistent play, dwindling attendance, certain players made to be outcasts and treated unfairly, playoff crowds around 500, never mind Lake Superior didn't make the playoffs, it is the same story year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year, and will be that way, and I am proven right every season and will be again next year. Because Jim Roque isn't going anywhere. Write your letters, your emails, I can guarantee they may be read, but won't carry any weight. You people up there always have an excuse and will blame everything and everyone, including the coach that put your little college on the map, won you your first NCAA Championship and largely responsible for the other two, and was on his way to rebuilding it once again, as evidenced by the current coaches only two decent season his first two. You people and the Roque apologists on here and up there will have more outlandish excuses this off season, but the end result will be the same next year and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one and the next one.

I am sure the "unnamed donor" will have an update on the renovation project to the Norris Center that was to start 9 months ago?

I'll talk to you people at the same time in 2015, and just add one more next year and next one, and everything else will be the same.

The Truth Is Out There....

Truth etc ... take a breath. I agree with you most of the time, but this time you are wrong, at least on one point. Drop me a line on PM :-)
Kevin Czuzcman has apparently signed with the Islanders.
Jim Roque is not signing with anybody (Truth ... let's have toast !)

I heard the players had a meeting with Dunbar at 2:00 and were informed that Roque's contract would not be renewed. Like you said, nothing official (substantiated) yet.
