LSSU Lakers 2014-15

So your long defense of Witton, applies only to him, and not other first year coaches?
Not at all. But if Fogarty was hired at LSSU instead of Whitten, do you think the results would be much different? Taking over a program near the bottom of the standings is a pretty tough job regardless of where it is. To be fair, you need to give a new coach 3-4 years to see what he can really do. You're the one who came on here whining about the stats from this season, Whitten's first as head coach. I hope that Princeton fans aren't complaining about Fogarty. He derserves a chance to see what he can do just as Damon does.

Pointing out the actual results and stats from the season, and Witton's record as coach, isn't whining, it just doesn't fit your talking points.

So we have first year head coach Damon Whitten who has inherited a team of Jim Roque's players (yes Damon did bring in a few D-men, a goalie and a forward, to fill out the roster after the recruiting season was largely over), a team that had no returning goalies with any college experience, a team that had only a little returning experience on defense, a team that wasn't returning much scoring power. And then you come on here with your first post under your current user name, throwing out all the bad stats you can find for this season's team, and one bogus stat since anyone familiar with sports knows you don't include W-L data from the time spent as an assistant coach in a head coaches official record, and you complain about the new coach. And then you couldn't figure out why I replied "seriously???" to that first post.

I do have a question for you though. Are you one of the small contingent of fans who can't get over the fact that Jim Roque was fired, or are you one of those fans who felt it was time for Jim to go but just didn't like the selection of Damon Whitten as his replacement?

Then why don't you tell me all the places this team has improved this season? I'm listing actual facts about the season and the places Witton has coached in the past and their results.

I am a Laker Fan, from as far back as their days at Pullar, and a current season ticket holder, who is concerned about the direction this once vaunted hockey program has gone, and continues to head, under this coach, who has proven nothing this year, or anywhere else he has coached.

Defensively the team has improved considerably since the first half of the season, not withstanding the egg they laid last night. And Defiel has also played much better in net since the holidays. The biggest problem they have is lack of offense. Since the forwards, with the exception of Sandler, are all Roque recruits, you can't put that lack of offense off on Damon Whitten. His first true recruiting class comes in next season. This is the first place he has served as head coach, so it's pointless for you to keep bringing up the "elsewhere" tag. Are you going to answer the question in my last post or not?

You have your talking points and opinions and I have mine. That is why you call this a forum where fans share ideas and opinions on their favorite teams and issues in college hockey. I have issues with how this year went and I think it is very relevant to see where a coach has been and the records their teams have had. You may not, I do, and wanted to share that. Just because some people don't share your setiment and opinions about the direction of the program, doesn't mean they have to answer to you or your questions. I'm a Laker fan, enough said!

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Whitten learned what Anzalone did on his second stint at Lake State. When you are given a team with very little talent, you are lucky to win 7-8 games .

It's fine if others don't share all of my opinions; I don't expect them to. The point is we have a first year coach who inherited the prior coach's team. It's uncalled for and inappropriate to criticize him as you have done at this stage of his Laker coaching career. You need to get real about your expectations for the team. If you've been a Lakers fan for as long as you say, you should be well aware that W-L records while as an assistant coach have little if any bearing on what the same person will do as head coach. As pointed out previously on this thread (I think it may have been by JNAAC), Scott Borek was an assistant coach with the Lakers when they had tremendous W-L records, and we all know what happened when he became head coach.

I assume you don't want to answer the question.

I'm glad you don't expect us to share ALL your opinions, wouldn't think you would be that arrogant. As a Laker fan, I have higher expectations in my team. Leading the nation in losses isn't one of those. Uncalled for to point that out and what their performance is on the ice under this coach? You can't be serious??? This is Divison I athletics grow some thicker skin.

I already did, I'm a Laker fan who expects better, don't peg me into the groups that you like to create for those that don't aspouse to your agenda, or even dare to disagree with the all knowing Bill on the USCHO board.

What were your higher expectations the past 9 seasons?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I suppose Notre Dame fans should feel worse than Laker fans. A great coach with a ton of talented players and Notre Dame did nothing for the most past .

BINGO!!!! Funny that someone who is so concerned about the direction the program has been heading in was no where to be spotted during Roques long and mediocre (at best) tenure.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Went to Saturdays game and was very unimpressed with the play. Does anyone know why the captain sat both nights and Globke was scratched also? In previous years I thought Globke was the best player? Nice crowd though.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Tough series this weekend but I believe Arizona State will be a defining moment for this team.

I believe you meant to put this comment on the current season's thread (on page 2 at the moment). But yes, tough series, especially since we have some guys a little banged up. Will be interesting to see which players make the trip.
