LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

The refs didn't do a very good job tonight. As bad as this season has been the last two weekends the refs have not done even a decent job.

Mankato is just too talented and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the last game this season.

I hope they play North Dakota in the frozen four. That would have the makings of a great game.

Ugh what an ugly game. Not surprised though, Minnesota State is one of the top teams in the country and very well could be hoisting the National Championship trophy next month. At least it was nice to see Davis get some playing time in net.

Mankato won't be able to hoist anything unless this Tech-Huntsville game ever finishes. It seems as though it could go on for a while, but I have to imagine Guerrero is getting tired.

What an epic game in Houghton tonight. Guerrero is absolutely standing on his head.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

My only question at this point, is why Whitton continues to play a style he currently does not have the players for.
I think that if he wants to play uptempo style, he had to make the change at some point. The question then becomes, when would be the best time to do that? Next season, when he's bringing in his first true recruiting class? The season after, when he'll have even more of his recruits on the team? But even then, there will still be players on the team that are Roque's recruits. I think he decided to just bite the bullet and make the change this season and try and get the Laker players into the mindset of that style of play. It's up to them to get themselves in shape physically and mentally to try and play that style. Even though he doesn't have enough of the right players to do that yet, at least they can try to do so to the best of their ability, and as more of his players come into the program hopefully we'll see things going more smoothly. Sure the Lakers maybe could have a won a few more game this season by not going to that style of play, but then they would still be faced with the task of trying to change their style of play at some future season and there would likely still be bumps along that road whenever they did so. By making the change this season, all new players coming in will know that is style they'll be playing; they won't be faced with playing with one style for a while and then changing to another style.

Exactly right Bill. Just like most things in life, it's better to bite the bullet sooner rather later. The players returning now have a year of the system and can be helpful to the new guys learning it.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

8-25-2 and a 7 goal loss in the playoffs, outshot by 40 never sounded so good.

A lot of Laker fans were hoping Ron Fogarty got the job instead of Damon Whitten. Fogarty got the Princeton job instead. Princeton's record this season was 4-23-3.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

You can't blame Whitten for this year . Next year and there after we will have an idea of the type of coach he is . There are probably 20 players on this team who belong in the Atlantic Conference or at Division 3 . Whitten must now feel how Anzalone felt on his second tour of duty at Lake State. Try to make winners out of a team that was full of division 3 players.

I still say that this team is probably the worse team ever to be put out on the ice. When Anzalone was racking up 28 losses as is Whitten this season, the Lakers under Anzalone were playing in a much stronger league , the CCHA .

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

So your long defense of Witton, applies only to him, and not other first year coaches?

UAH was 2-35-1 — demonstrably worse than the Lakers last year — and sported the same record this year as the Lakers did. We have only one class that was recruited by this coaching staff. Our sophomores are good, but the freshmen are better. Our upperclassmen give a good effort but aren't up to the average talent level in the WCHA. We know what we are, and we're building. I fully expect that Whitten is the same way in the Soo. If we had judged Mike Corbett by one year in Huntsville, he would've been hung from the Saturn V. Guess what? We didn't, because we have perspective and know that this is a change in progress. I hope that the bandwagon runs you over when you try to jump back on.
