LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

BG has been selling beer at the games for the past two seasons. Thus far it has worked out well. They have Bud Light and Yuengling on tap and a number of others in cans. $8.00 for a 32 ouncer in a souvenir cup which isn't too shabby.

Completely off topic, but you've just decided for the my group of Tech alums annual roadtrip is next year.

I went down to watch the Lakers play at BG this year and the sale of beer was not very noticeable as far as getting out of hand. The only thing that I really noticed was as the second intermission was coming to a close there was two BG fans male close to thirty years old that were yelling slurred you suck to Damon as we were waiting in the hall to get to our seats. It didn't bother my wife or I but it embarrassed the young lady who was working the strap holding the crowd back for the teams to make their way back to the ice. She whispered for the two to be quiet a few times then finally loudly told them to shut up. That was kind of funny I'm sure Damon has thick enough skin to handle what them two happy fans were dishing out.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Assuming we play good D and are good in net, we need to have the offense step up and get us a couple of wins this weekend. We have another bye next weekend whereas UAH and Anchorage will both be playing. A couple of wins this weekend will give us a bit of a cushion in the fight for the last playoff spot.

Pretty much applies to us, too. First to two goals wins? Two goals bumps either team's average. :p

From the LSSU Press Release:

LSSU Concessions will be selling adult beverages for the first time ever inside Abel Arena during both games of the series. A designated wristband area will be set up on the second level of the arena near the upstairs concession stand. The first beverage is $3.50 and every drink after will be $3 with the same cup. Budweiser, Bud Light, Busch, Busch Light, and Labatt Blue will be among the beverages available.
About time.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I'm looking forward to switching back and forth between the UAH-LSSU game and the BSU-NMU game. Two series with a lot of implications between evenly matched teams - now is when I wish WCHA.tv still had the picture in picture feature.

According to Damon on last nights show, it sounds like we will be playing a NC series with NMU next season, possibly home and home as well as any other year we play them only twice in conference play. Same thing goes with Michigan Tech. A good idea IMO and it sounds like Damon wants to bring a Superior Cup like thing back as well which would be really cool. Unfortunately, we will be making two separate trips to Alaska again next season.

At least Lakers will get NC home games.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

True. After having none this season, we should have one in 2015-16 (Arizona State) and then at least two in 2016-17 (Michigan State and Michigan Tech).

Very important to get a sweep this weekend standings wise. We have to take advantage of home ice. I also have a feeling UAA will upset Tech once this weekend.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Love to spend some time tonight listening to Bill Crawford online. It's like a forgotten sweatshirt or a blanket you find in the closet and pull out on a cold night, and it's just as comfy as you remembered.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I was glad to hear Damon was upset about tonight's game. Expect some line-up changes for tomorrow's game. I wonder which players will get the nod?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Watching Rich doing his presentation on the game plan before the game they seemed to drift away from it after the first few minutes. I was disappointed with the lack of pressure the Lakers put on the Chargers.

I love the Chargers sweater, it's probably the second best in all of college hockey.

I just wish our home jerseys were as good. The Lakers' jerseys are brilliant in their classic-ness (or whatever word I'm looking for). The game might not have been pretty, and both teams looked goooooooood. :)

Maybe you saw this piece about Globke, maybe not: http://www.lssulakers.com/sports/m-hockey/2014-15/releases/Globke_Alex_profile

Globke noted at the end of last season that improving his skating was a priority. While he worked on his skating during the off-season, his weakness was a bit more glaring with new coach Damon Whitten’s system. Ultimately, he is becoming a better all-around player.

“I never played the system that we’re playing right now,” he said. “It requires more skating and conditioning that I’m used to. Especially for the freshmen, it took us a little while to get into position and learn where we are going as a team and program. It took us awhile to understand where we need to be, but slowly we’ve understood…My skating is exponentially better. It’s been a huge step for me this year. I’m still not the best skater, but the improvements make me stronger on my feet.”

“When we worked with (power skating coach) Kim Muir at the beginning of the year, and he was a student of hers in the summer, his improvement definitely showed,” Vernace said. “He came in a lot smoother I thought, at both ends of the ice. I don’t know if I’d say he was bad last year, but his work definitely showed.”

I clearly don't follow the Lakers like y'all do, but this made his sophomore struggles make more sense to me.

1852 in the house for a key playoff battle and now having beer available...and this is supposedly a hockey town?

Its still a hockey town...just no longer a Laker Hockey town....18 years of misery and woe will do that to a program but attendance will improve as this team improves. I have always said that Whitten needs to be given a couple of seasons before we can see the fruits of his labor. If the program still stinks to high heaven in year 3, then I'm all in favor of pulling the plug cause god knows I had all about I can take in following this program and I certainly will follow it no longer if Whitten can't turn it around in year 3.
