LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Not so much my opinion as just what I heard. The goalie job was wide open coming into this season. Defiel evidently worked the hardest at getting in shape and Megariotis evidently didn't work as hard as he should have. Now obviously there's more to being a good goalie than just being in good shape, but I guess they must have been fairly equal in goaltending skills and Whitten went with who was in the best condition and who was looking the best in practices.

By all means, keep posting. It's a good way to share info and opinions on Laker hockey.
My Grandfather told me " Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see" lol. I hope to see more of him. Some chemistry on the team would be nice too.

In this case, I'll just add that I heard it from someone who I consider to be a reliable source.

Maybe we'll see more of Megariotis.

I hope so. If they all came in with the same chances it seems he is the only one that hasn't had a real chance to prove himself in a game situation.Having every practice be like a tryout would be tough. In my opinion it's hard to judge a goalie by practice. Damon was a goalie too I believe. He should know that. Either way I hope to see some more wins. Happy Thanksgiving

Not sure if he was never a goalie but most of his later career he was a left wing.

Damon actually did start out as a goalie early in his hockey life. He played in the pipes for our intramural team a couple times and you can tell he still knows what he's doing.

I agree with Bill's sentiments that conditioning may be playing a big part in the game-day decisions. There has been a lot of talk from reputable sources around the lack of conditioning from returning players versus the freshman. It may be contributing to the Freshman getting more playing time. Should even out toward the end of the season.

Personally, I like all three goalies we have. I am interested in seeing Megaroitis play a full game so we can get a fair comparison. Based on what I've seen so far from all 3, goaltender is not the position to be worried about.

Well that was ugly. The power play did look pretty good at times as far as puck control and movement. Passing really hurt the Lakers tonight but the Mavericks are excellent at clogging the passing lanes.

Mankato is one talented team if they weren't playing the Lakers they would be fun to watch.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

The one good thing that came out of the weekend was the fact the Lakers didn't have to travel 450 miles to be the Thanksgiving dinner for the Mavericks but were able to be feasted on in the comfort of their own homes.

I think hardly anyone wants to play a home series over Thanksgiving when the students are gone and many other fans are visiting family. Scheduling hasn't been all that great the past few seasons. Too many home series when school isn't in session and students are gone.

First games of the year and was not impressed at all. Also who counts the attendance they were lucky to have 800 people on Friday night.

I'm pretty sure it is "paid attendance" that gets reported. If someone has a season ticket and doesn't show up, it still counts in the attendance.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

This weekend will mark the second week in a row against a No. 1 ranked squad. MSU was No.1 in Pairwise last week, UND is No. 1 in USCHO updated poll today. I wouldn't expect a much different outcome than last week in a tough environment, however I will not be discouraged by it because non conference play means nothing at this point as the Lakers still currently sit at sixth place in the WCHA and in position to make the conference playoffs which will be a good growing experience for this young squad. Obviously I'd like to see wins but let's not forget that the Lakers were picked to finish ninth and currently sit in sixth so there is some silver lining. The following weekend against Ferris is going to be tough but they're not the same Bulldogs from the past few years, however they do still have Motte :/

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Only thing being is the Lakers have played four more games than three of the four below them .

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Alaska hasn't played either Tech nor MSU and I would anticipate them getting swept in both series and Anchorage hasn't played MSU yet. I think it is fair to say that the sixth spot will mean a little more as the season goes on and we play the teams behind us and see if we can hold that position. I just wanted to point out that a finish anywhere above ninth in the league standings would be a positive from my stand point, especially if they could make the WCHA playoffs.

Note to who ever does the scheduling. How about scheduling the bye week over Thanksgiving weekend. Naaa that would make sense. :)

Roque did the scheduling. Having Tech on the first day of practice with no scrimmage was his call so that they could play in this Florida tournament. I'm sure the WCHA has a lot of say in most of the conference scheduling in terms of when games are but I do know that at least the Tech series was Roque's call in order to fit the tournament. Not trying to stir the pot for the Roque supporters, just saying what I've heard from people in the department. As far as Thanksgiving though, not sure why we continue to get stuck with a home series for what seems like at least 4 years now.
