Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Wow what a game! much closer than the score indicated with 3 3rd period goals by the Lakers including 2 empty netters....the low attendance has been talked about already but my friend and I were talking and both said if 4,000 butts were in seats instead of just over a thousand than that game goes down in the annals of Lake State history, at least Kapalka's performance would...a 49 save shutout in the first college playoff of his career?? Nothing short of amazing, add to it the fact that there were 90 SOG during the game and that it was 1-0 going into the last 10 minutes of the game, if it had been played in front of a full crowd, the atmosphere would have been indescribable.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

That isn't even the Taffy Abel Arena, Truth Squid.

I find it amusing that despite Truth Squad's user name, he/she doesn't even have the intellectual honesty to post a picture of Taffy Able when coming on here to crow about the poor attendance last night.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Joe Blaznek plays for Franks team in Quad City? Joe played for the Lakers back in the 90s.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Nice to get the sweep this weekend. Even though he did not score tonight, I thought that Kyle Jean played his best game of the year. It was positive to see him go to the net tonight which he has not done in the past.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Awesome to see a playoff home sweep (first since 1996) of Oho State. I agree Kyle Jean was a force on the ice tonight and Acton's goal was outstanding. Kapalka was awesome again, minus the 2nd Buckeye goal.

Also Schofield reached the 50 goal plateau for his career. I believe he's the first Laker to do that since Blaznek in '98.

Good luck to the Lakers next weekend. I just don't see them advancing, not enough offensive power. K2 might steal a game and force a game 3, but that's it. Maybe the boys will prove me wrong.

With the Lakers advancing, I think Roque will be back next year.

Well done by the Lakers, it doesn't let Roque off the hook in my opinion and it looks like dark skies ahead with Michigan (most likely) next weekend but I'm sure those topics will be covered enough this coming week, for tonight I'm content with celebrating and congratulating the Lakers on a hard fought first round series win! I was very glad to see the seniors get a moment in the sun at center ice during the post game celebration, what better way to cap off their Laker careers in their final game at Taffy than a standing ovation after winning the first series of their career, they've worked hard for a moment like this....and how fitting is it that Rick Schofield got the game winning goal??? Mr. Clutch came through again for the big yellow anchors!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Alaska sweeps Michigan State so playing Miami next weekend is out. We play either Michigan or Notre Dame depending on game 3 of the NMU/BGSU series. If NMU wins, we head to Michigan. If BGSU upsets NMU again, we head to Notre Dame.

If we do play at Michigan, hopefully FSN will broadcast a game.

The Red Wings play on Friday and Saturday on FSN, while the Pistons also play on Friday and Saturday on FSN+.

The Friday and Saturday game for whover plays at Michigan are going to be shown on Comcast.

I'd rather play Michigan or Notre Dame than Miami. I think LSSU matches up better against the former two than the latter. No matter who the Lakers play I think they will lose, but against Notre Dame or Michigan I think they could keep it close.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Does anyone know if there is an online archive for CBS college sports where i could watch the Lakers Friday night game vs. OSU? I was in attendance but I'd like to re-watch it in broadcast form...

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I was at the second Miami game and all I can say is Lakers should have played the first five minutes like the rest of the game. They played them even in the second and third period. The difference and I seen it again this weekend is the offense started to back check all the way into the defensive zone. At least one if not two off them taking away many opportunities in the slot. They weren't faster but the hustle paid off if Miami or Ohio had to make a play in that slot those offensive players that hustle threw them off their game and could cover the third or fourth opposing player in the slot. Lakers aren't going to be offensive but with K2 if the offense helps defense they can be in the game. As for the season the biggest 20/20 vision would have been to let K2 play even more in the beginning. Wonder what place they would have finished then? Personally I am glad the staff worked with BMW to see if he could comeback. IMO there is enough talent here to be competitive with the best. As for what league to pick from just pick the best talent. As for USHL I thought many of those are actually recruited prior to playing in the U and one of the reasons they get picked up by the USHL. Did notice a lot of recruits for MTU though. Also Fogarty is a good coach and great recruiter but I think those discussions are premature. But what if????.....would he bring Barczuk back with him since I hear he is going to Adrian. Also is Barczuk still rostered? Anyways go lakers,,

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I almost forgot one comment. I was helping CBS sports and had some students helping. Students could come back on Friday. The CBS crew was like amazed that no one came or showed up for the game. The students I did listen too didn't say anything about the coaches. Their only comment was I am ashamed to call myself a Laker tonight in reference to their fellow students pride especially on a TV night. Also no way was there 1000 people there and less if you didn't count the LSSU, CBS and CCHA officials. CBS was discussing how they couldn't pan the rink it was so empty and commented several times how their estimate was under a 1000. That picture on this thread might not be Abel but it was the same difference.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I don't think Kapalka starting for the entire season would have made much different. Kapalka started 24 of the 28 CCHA games. 4 out of the 6 games he did not start this year were against ranked teams who will be in the NCAA tournament.

Below are the games that Wilson started this year:

Friday night (vs. Duluth 6-6 tie)
@ Notre Dame (both 4-2 losses)
Friday night vs. Colgate (2-1 win)
Friday night @ Miami (6-2 loss)
Friday night vs. Northern Michigan (4-1 loss)

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Northern drew 1200 that night as well.. I did not like the low attendance for the weekend but i am an allum and am proud to be a Laker.
