Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2
I am convinced that at least 98% of the Laker fans want a coaching change. I do not personally know a single individual that supports Coach Roque and to most it goes farther than just his coaching. Although it is noble of his friends to come on this board and give it their all, It’s difficult to defend their friend on this site when there is such consistency in his performance. This stands out when reading the posts of the loyal few.
Trying to spin this discussion to low funding is no longer an argument as everyone knows that funding equates to the ability to properly recruit and the assistant coaches have done their share by delivering talent to the program regardless of what the funding level has been. We have had more talent than many teams in our league consistently for years in succession with equal results.
Trying to spin the discussion by forcing us to name who we think could do better is a mute point. People are not asking for a particular successor, people are asking for a change.
Why ask for change? Mr. Truth Squad has said it perfectly. Every year has the same storyline. Not just close but identical. Coach Roque is the longest tenured coach in Laker History. You would think that he would be highly respected but my understanding is that Mr. Anchors Aweigh is accurate when he says that Coach Roque’s likeability in the community, with Laker Alumn’s and within the team is low. I mean where else do you hear of a college coach in any community calling the police to arrest a linesman? And people on here actually berate the official? Why did Coach Roque’s top two winning percentages occur his first two years? These two teams had the least talent statistically. I offer the following. Maybe the previous Head Coach had the team on the verge. Maybe Coach Roque’s inability to deal with people has wore thin. Maybe the previous A.D. had greater demands, or maybe the assistant coach that everyone felt was coaching the team, actually was. That is what should be discussed isn’t it?
