Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Lakers2Glory, thanks for the information, apparently there was more at play so I won't bag on Roque on this issue, it stills leaves us on the hook face the 2014 season to fill 3 goaltender positions, and I noticed in a previous post you mentioned that Marble has some maturity issues, so maybe it's for the best that he defected.
Since we were going to have a couple of goalie vacancies to fill in two seasons even if Marble did come to LSSU, no doubt the coaches have already been out looking at goalies for the 2014-15 season. Now we'll have 3 vacancies instead of two, and the recruiting task is more important. Not the ideal situation, but it is what it is. Michigan has been hurt by lack of experience in net entering this season, whereas Miami has not.

Point well taken Bill, hopefully the Lakers can uncover some more quality goaltenders like KK and KM.

As far as the nWCHA schedule goes, I think it shapes up as best as could be expected for the Lakers, for the road trips, UAA and UAH are down, NMU is a rival so you can throw records, etc. out the window, and BG, FSU, BSU, and MTU are all teams that we have been competitive with in the past few years and the Lakers play well at home... the road series against Union, Wisky, and ND added with RMU's program being on the upswing should help out our SOS so any wins there should add to our resume. If the Lakers can play to their potential (a humongous if) the opportunity should be there to really make some noise next year.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

In the preseason I hypothesized that if LSSU scored 120 goals and held their opponents to 100 goals in their 36 regular season games that they would finish in the CCHA top 4 and secure an NCAA berth, along with a list of goal projections I made for each player that I thought was feasible to reach that 120 goal mark.

Mcparland - 17

Monardo - 15

Lain - 12

Campbell - 7

Ciotti - 7

Radke - 7

Perfetto - 7

Power - 7

Robinson -7

McKay - 5

Vernace - 5

Czuczman - 5

Ainsworth - 3

Schmitt - 3

Perrault - 2

Loesch - 2

Sternberg - 2

Bruneteau - 2

Wees - 1

Dommett - 1

Spratte - 1

Wall - 1

Drapluk - 1

This is my end of season update on my preseason projections, as it turns out, 120 goals for as a target for being in the NCAA mix was a bit high, as the only NCAA team who scored 120 goals was Minnesota, who is number 2 currently inthe Pairwise rankings. the Lakers scored 87 goals, 72.5 % of the way to my proposed quota, and performed better than I proposed on the defensive end allowing 96 goals, 4 under my quota of 100. here is the final individual breakdown goals-wise, with their actual goal total on the left, their preseason goal quota that I assigned on the right along with their progress towards their quota in percentage form

Mcparland 6/17 35.2%

Monardo 19/15 126%

Lain 8/12 66%

Campbell 0/7 0%

Ciotti 10/7 142%

Radke 5/7 71.4%

Perfetto 6/7 85.7 %

Power 4/7 57.1%

Robinson 8/7 114%

McKay 0/5 0%

Vernace 2/5 40%

Czuczman 2/5 40%

Ainsworth 2/3 66%

Schmitt 3/3 100%

Perrault 1/2 50%

Loesch 0/2 0%

Sternberg 5/2 250%

Bruneteau 2/2 100%

Wees 0/1 0%

Dommett 2/1 200%

Spratte 0/1 0%

Wall 0/1 0%

Drapluk 2/1 200%

the players in bold surpassed their quota

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Well it's time to see how bad they want to move on.

Lain didn't last long. Did anyone at the game see what happened? Bill Crawford said he didn't.

He signed for six years, $125,000 base in 2010. Not sure how significant the incentives are, or if he's gotten any kind of raise since then.

He just got an extension to his contract this season, I think for 3 more years.

Also here's hoping for a great series to the LSSU supporters but not too great ;)

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

After the 2nd period, Bill Crawford said they had a chance to look at a replay of the Lain major penalty. The BG kid tripped over Lain's leg and went down hard. One of the linesmen called a contact to the head penalty on Lain and he was gone for the game. Bill said there was no contact to the head at all. Phantom call.

The officials didn't see anything. Initially, there was no penalty call. Only after a conference of the officials and linesmen several minutes later did a penalty call arise.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I think it was a matter of the bg player knowing Lains reputation and went down in hopes of drawing a penalty. At the time it seemed like they got tangled and the BG player went down until their trainer came out to help him off the ice. This is why Lain has to go after this season he has been unjustly singled out as a dirty player and never gets the benefit of any doubt.

I hope the linesman that made the call walks in dog **** the rest of his day's because he sure deserves it.

One more thing this will always be the true legacy of the unfair ccha big boys club.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Oh yeah congratulations to the Lakers for playing a solid game tonight. The Falcons are no pushovers.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Nice win, but this series is far from over. BGSU lost the first game the last two years they played at NMU and then both times they came back and won the series. Kaps was really sharp...his rebound control was excellent. Nice to see Monardo hit the 20 goal plateau since it's been 16 years since a Laker done that last. If Lain stays his senior year, I hope the WCHA officials treat him more fairly and not pull bull**** on him.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I'm sorry if you thought I thought this series was over because I sure don't. As well as the Lakers played tonight I think they will have to ratchet it up even more to close this series out.

As far as Lain I think it's pretty much a done deal he will leave after this season is over.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Lain's penalty is also illegal in pro hockey, too. Will get called for it there, too. He hit the opponent in the head with his elbow.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Replay on the game film showed there was no contact to the head at all. BG player tripped over him. However, bad calls are made in the NHL, too.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

The BG player who had to "be helped from the ice," was back out on the ice with 2+ minutes left in the 5 minute PP.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Do you think refs get that? I mean, when a player is hit and goes down like he was shot - and then is playing again in few minutes like nothing happened. Does it dawn on them that they have been suckered?

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Here's the video. If you've seen it already, look at it again. I don't have a rooting interest. It looks to me like Lain hit Berkle in the head with his outstretched elbow. You all be the judge.

I don't know about that. Pretty tough to tell from that angle and that far away. Not enough to verify a hit to the head anyway. When Crawford said they had a replay showing there was no contact to the head, they may very well have had it from a different camera and closer up. Crawford is pretty honest about calling it like it is, especially after having a replay to look at. There have been other situations this season where he thought a call was questionable but then after looking at a replay he said the ref got it right.
