Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Perhaps Megariotis will be another Murdock. Things didn't work out for Murdock at Mankato, but so far at LSSU, he's been very good.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Actually, I still have the ESPN tape from that game. If you watch the tape and go frame by frame after Sean's shot you see the puck head toward the crossbar and it disappears for 4 frames.........where did it go? In the net and out.

Absolutely. That goal was in.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

The Lakers start out with 6 non conference games against teams who had winning records last season. that could give us a better idea of how the Lakers stack up against quality competition heading into league play.

Plus one exhibition game as well. Two teams made the NCAA tournament and one didn't miss it by much. If the Lakers can finish 3-3 against Robert Morris, Union, and Wisconsin, I'll be pretty happy.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Lain, Acton, and Trotman all got their first taste of the NHL in last weekend. Trotman even recorded a goal. Its still the preseason and the odds of any of them making the final rosters are probably slim but still good for Laker Hockey in general.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

If the laker players are making the pros or are being given shots to make the pros, why was winning so hard for those players to do while at Lake State.

There weren't enough of them. Northern's Mark Olver has spent the better part of the last two years in the NHL, Erik Gustafsson has NHL time as well. Florek and Coreau have both looked solid in Boston (where Trotman has played well) and Detroit. Now take a look at how many players from Michigan, Miami, Western and Notre Dame are expected to at least make AHL rosters this year. There's a slight difference between them and the Techs, Northerns and LSSUs of the world. Oh, and none of those players, Robinson included is a sure bet to open on an NHL roster. None is a sure fire NHL star.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Yep, the boys look good this year.
How many goalies do we have practicing? Aside from the 3 returning seniors, there is the transfer goalie, and possibly walk-ons trying out for the team. Is it safe to assume there are at least 4 goalies practicing?

In addition to the other responses, another possible explanation is there isn't enough confidence/trust in Roque from the players on the team. Thus they under perform.

Under performing players rarely attract the attention of NHL or AHL teams. Trotman was a late draft pick who put up only 6 points his last year of junior, yet improved to the 20 point range at LSSU and developed into a player that showed enough potential to get signed and a spot in Boston's camp (many picks that low never sign an NHL deal). Lain and Robinson went undrafted, yet showed enough development at LSSU to attract NHL attention. I thought Robinson was one of the most improved players in the CCHA players last year.

Dave,

I'm not implying that Robinson (or some of the other players mentioned) under performed. I think it's more of an issue of whether the "team" has under performed.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I am sure we get the leagues picks this week on what team is picked first to last.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

This is my prediction on what the WCHA standings will be at the end of the season.
1. Mankato
2 Ferris State
3. Bowling Green
4. Michigan Tech
5. UAF
6. NMU
7. LSSU
8. Bemidji
9. UAA
10. UAH

I would probably have Bemidji 7th and Lakers 8th.
