I don't know what your talking about? I'm a Jim Roque supporter like you and the majority of people on here. Year 9 will be the best year yet under his administration at Lake Superior!!

Not too hard to smell what a big pile of Pink Pony Poop that is. Where has your other personality Truth Squad been, or have the meds helped keep your psyche to a single identity?

In about three weeks we should be getting the coaches and media predictions on who finishes where and I am betting the Lakers are picked in the bottom four of the league with the Beavers,AA,and UAH. Where they fall in those four will be the mystery .

UAH should be 10 and UAA 9. LSSU, somewhere 6-8. With a few breaks, could contend for home ice in the first playoff round. The difference between 7 & 10 in the CCHA last year was 4 points. I would expect to see something similar this year in the new league from 2 or 3 to 7 or 8.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

A month till our first game. Have not heard much about our recruits. Interested if the part time assistant experiment has helped or hurt recruiting. Seems like we have dropped off the last couple of years and not been able to replace the talent we have lost. Do others think our Freshman and Sophomore classes have declined with a single assistant doing most of our recruiting?

I think Drapluk and Loesch were good recruits on D last year, Czuczman the year before. Offensively is where the recruiting seems to be lacking. Metro probably took care of most of the offensive recruiting when he was the assistant.

Hard to say. Prior to last season, we didn't have a lot of 1st and 2nd line forwards to replace. The exception was Jean, but he left late for the pros so they had to scramble to find someone to fill behind him, and that was more of a numbers thing. Laprade was still kind of getting his feet wet. I doubt Metro was getting paid much prior to Laprade; whether Metro had another source of income, I don't know.

I think this season will be a better barometer of how recruiting is going with Laprade as the #2 assistant instead of Metro. Scoring has been a big challenge for many years, and this season we have 7 new forwards. If at least some of these guys don't put up decent points, then I'd say yes our recruiting has declined since Laprade came on board. Although it appears to already have done so, that may be more of a factor of what the needs for a season were in combination with who was leaving and how much scholarship money was available. Last season, defense was a priority for recruiting. This season, forward was. Next season, defense and goalies will be a priority, although we'll have a couple of key forwards to replace as well (Campbell and Radke).

Laprade may be on the road recruiting more than we think. I don't know how many of the incoming freshmen were initially recruited/spotted by Laprade (or how many of the returning players may have been). I did hear him say on one of the Laker shows that Correale was the first guy he saw that he really liked while on the road recruiting for the Lakers, so I assume he pointed him out to Roque/Christian to follow up on.

I don't claim to know how the media and coaching predictions will pan out (and to be honest, I don't put much stock in them anyway) however, the two WCHA teams I follow the closest are LSSU and NMU and as it stands right now, there is no line of reasoning that holds any water to proclaim that NMU will be any markedly better than LSSU. They both lost significant offensive contributions and defensively are bringing back many of their core contributors. The only difference is that LSSU is bringing back two goaltenders who have proven they can play at an elite level when healthy, while NMU is basically starting from scratch at that position.

Pretty good assessment. For NMU, if the goaltending turns out solid and the young players take the next step, they'll contend for a first round home ice bid. If not, they likely still make the playoffs, but finish somewhere 6-8. The same can be said for Bowling Green and Tech. Ferris is a lot like LSSU in that they have solid veteran goaltending, but may struggle to score. Throw them all in a hat with Bemidji, draw them out in any order and you stand just as good a chance at being right as the coaches or media will.
