I wonder if the Lakers will practice over at the Big Bear Arena at all this season. With all of the big sheets they will be playing on, does practicing on it help or is it a mute point?

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

That's a good point . Why not practice on a bigger sheet if you will be playing more games on the bigger ice.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Not to intentionally echo Bill's long-valid lament, but:

They don't need big ice to practice shooting the puck into the net.

But seriously -- I wonder if they'll use the Big Ice for practice? I don't know if they've ever done that before. I think its probably a small-level pain in the backside to move all the gear over there.

And it would probably cost money.

Hopefully Colin Campbell will be 100% healthy this season. The Lakers could really use a big season from him. So far, his sophomore season is the only one where he played without his shoulder being a big hindrance.

Not sure it's that big of a deal. With Kato's downsizing (rumoured to be a hybrid 200 X 90, but the work's not done yet), you're only adding Anchorage with an international size rink, since NMU and UAF were already on your schedule in years past.

A university bleeding money; the high cost of ice time in Sault Ste. Marie because demand outstrips supply; just for financial reasons I doubt that would ever happen.

The trip to Wisconsin will be 2 more games on larger ice this season.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I think that is part of the fundraising campaign to build VIP seating and sky boxes. This is going to be the best year of the last 9 at Lake Superior!!

How long has it been since Truthy's son was kicked off the squad? Six years or so? And yet he still has this much anger. Amazing.

I would have thought the fact his protege' went on to become one of the top 454 players in the Metropolitan Toronto Street Hockey League would have alleviated some of that anger, but not so.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

It likely would be beneficial if the team could have a practice or two on the wider ice before playing on it, beyond the just got off the bus and morning pregame skates.

I don't know what your talking about? I'm a Jim Roque supporter like you and the majority of people on here. Year 9 will be the best year yet under his administration at Lake Superior!!
