Shootouts are for all those fans who were texting during the game and overtime and want to watch something before they leave.

I keep looking at the games and the distance teams will be driving to and it just keeps telling me what a huge mistake it was to change the leagues.

Tell that to the ring leaders of the NCHC, and mostly, Minnesota-Duluth. They could have looked at their grandiose plans to be a big deal league, laughed in their faces, and told em no thanks, we would rather bus to our games most of the year. Might have ended up with NMU and LSSU going to the WCHA, and the CCHA schools taking Huntsville and a few of the western AHA schools, and would have worked out better travelwise for everybody after the Big Ten schools pulled out.

Then again, the leagues could have worked a little harder to work out a Crossover deal to let the Big Ten's play each other as a league, maybe even set up OSU and PSU to be the anchors of another league focused around Ohio, PA, and Western NY. Got some jerk in Wisconsin for screwing that all up for everybody.

You sound as if we had a choice. :p

IMO, the B1G had been gearing for this scenario for several years now. As soon as the sixth team was formed, who were they to care when all hell broke loose?

Once a sixth school added hockey, it was automatic. There was no option for those teams to remain in the CCHA & WCHA. Nor would there have been a Big Ten division within the CCHA. Once six schools sponsor a sport, it's automatically a Big Ten Comference.

Now there's the first time you've made that statement. The only thing that would make Year 9 better would be the disappearance of the schizophrenic Truths and the extinction of Pink Pony.

Oh well; it would have been a fresh start for Laker Hockey. If he has not been fired for his actions, lack of coaching skills and losing record by now I wonder what it will take. :( Possibly if the new President reviews the Athletic Department. Quite frankly if they want school enrollment to increase they need to have winning sports programs.

On the other hand I'm looking forward to watching some Laker Hockey in about 41 days.:)

I see you majored in English. Next year, we'll try complete sentences. Even the Truth Twins have that one down. Roque turned Buffalo & Rolston down so he wouldn't miss the love and understanding the Soo fans have, you know, the same people who can't understand why you don't get 10 bucks worth of gas for $3.79...

Here in the Soo we don't know why you can't get a bottle Dom Perignon for the same price as a bottle of Busch Light!

Hey, RapidCity.............cut Pink Pony some slack! I think he/she is doing pretty good with a third grade education.

Now can we lay the Jim Roque rumors to rest and get on with the hockey season? I'm ready!

Excellent post. A little more than a month away until the puck drops on a new league. Should be fun.

Isn't summer a funny thing in hockey? Last Spring, after the home playoff losses, I was so down. Now, with the season getting ready to fire up -- I am once again pumped. Perhaps foolishly hoping for a great year -- but hoping for a great year nonetheless. New teams, great old rivals, some great new rivals. Should be a fun and interesting year.
