Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

My thought was more a late departure to help one of his assistants get the head job not sink the program. Regardless, If he were leaving I am sure the administration is aware of it as the brother in law of the A.D. is an assistant coach. I don't think there will be any surprises. I wonder if he is staying it comes with assurances of a new contract?

I would hope that isn't the case and that the LSSU administration wont allow themselves to be strong-armed into a contract extension for a man who has not earned it....with that being said with the level of cognition that those driving the program have shown in the past I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

We set the standard last year when we fired our coach less than two weeks before the season started.

NCHC is going with the shoot out if a game ends in a tie. They can have it and thank the lord the WCHA doesn't.

Old school vs new school. Some people love it, some don't. Eventually the NCAA is going to switch to mandating it, the popularity among non-diehard fans will dictate that and we will be left with only the memories of when teams worked hard for 65 minutes for that tie game.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Shootouts are a function of time...............if you're playing a "getaway" night game in the North Country (SLU or Clarkson) and have a long bus trip through the mountains back to the Boston area, you'll
be happy to get on the road as soon as possible....................

Long bus trips out east? What? 4 hours?

davyd83.........Potsdam, NY to Providence, RI is a hell of a lot longer than 4 hours! BTW, have you ever driven out of the North Country in a blizzard in Febrary? I have.............

It's under 7 hours. I made bus trips of 11,12, 14, 9, 8 1/2 and 71/2 plus 17 getting to Fairbanks. Upper Michigan in January is no treat. 7 hours a long trip? That's a hop, skip and a jump in my book!

Daveyd83........good answer! From Albany, NY to Potsdam is a lot hillier than the UP to the Soo, but the winds in the UP can be brutal. I used to "do" Columbia, MD to Western Massachusetts every other weekend when I wasdating my soon-to-be wife, soething like 16-18 hours up the East coast at rush time....................

Neil, you need to update your e-mail address in your USCHO profile, if you haven't done so already.

Doesn't matter where you go in the northern tier, you're going to have some nasty winter weather at some point. Even Alabama-Huntsville can have some nasty stuff from time to time!

It seems like there's no in between. It's a Love It or Hate It thing.

People will be talking about that 10" storm in January 2011 in a good twenty years. Our "exciting" weather comes in April. :(

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Hate shootouts. A game that ends after a five-minute OT is still shorter than tacking on an additional 10-15 minutes to settle the matter with a skills competitions. Why not skate around cones or do sped-shooting at targets in the nets while we're at it. Or maybe just have the two team captains thumb wrestle for the extra point. Stoooopid.

Just my opinion, of course.
