Please tell us, is there an available liquor license available in the county or city? If not, do you know the cost of buying one from someone else?

Selling alcohol at an ncaa sanctioned event is against ncaa rules. The only way to get around it is if the athletic facility is not owned by the University.

Actually that's not true. The NCAA doesn't allow it at tourney events, but there is no rule prohibiting sales. It does occur in several stadiums and arenas. Some serve only in club or premium seating sections, such as Wisconsin and Minnesota hockey, while some others do allow it stadium wide. It's up to the school or state legislature.

Beer -- and lots of it -- is for sale in every nook and cranny of the Englestad Arena in North Dakota. 24oz Molson for something like $6.00.
Under the current "Beer is from Satan" regime on the Hill at LSSU, I don't foresee such freedoms being extended to the Laker faithful.

Another factor is the availability of a liquor license. If the University has one for catering purposes, that wouldn't apply to the arena. It goes by venue. The may be able to garner a couple one time or special event licenses for the boosters. Otherwise, they would have to purchase a license that is currently in escrow. I believe there are 2 or 3 in the county right now, none are available within the city of Sault Ste. Marie.

How hard is it to get a liquor license in the UP? I'm asking because I just don't know. Our liquor laws in North Alabama have been steadily loosening over time to the point that we're now legal to homebrew (the last state to allow it, IIRC), and we have open container laws in downtown Huntsville (although not by the VBC just yet, but it'll probably happen by 2015). But you don't have to go far to find dry counties or ones that are very parsimonious with them (high bond, only doing so many a year, etc.).
Germane to the thread: the University has one license for special events. There's a second license going in for a bar [!] at our new student center [!!!]. The arena runs under a license which is either held by the VBC Board of Control, or the concessions vendor has one. Probably both.

It varies, depending upon availability. Only so many are apportioned per geographic area. Some cities allow their Downtown Development Authorities to put them out on an as needed basis, but only within their boundaries. For instance, in Marquette, the DDA can issue a license between the lakeshore and 7th St and from Baraga St to Rige, then on 3rd St to Fair Ave. The Berry Events Center does not fall within Marquette's DDA.

Isn't alcohol sold at some of the events such as the awards banquet, and post game gatherings, which are held on campus at the Cisler Center?

Why not invite the Soo Greyhounds for the OHL to play an ex. at the famous Puller Ice Rink downtown Soo.
Didnt the Red Wings usto have training camp at the famous Puller?
How about playing NMU in exhibition LSSU at the Puller? Isnt the Puller the original rink for LSSU? Go back to using the Puller for some games and might spark some interest in LSSU hockey again.

NCAA teams can't play exhibitions against OHL teams. Not can they play exhibitions against other D-1 teams. Why would they play NMU at a place that has 1/3 the seating of the Abel Arena? Are you going to charge triple the price for a ticket? And by the way, it's PullAr. Ever been there? Maybe Tech could play NMU at the Dee, or the Calumet Armory. Maybe Lake State could host the Toronto Maple Leafs!

I have never been to the Pullar but I read about on the internet.
It would be cool if they could play exhibitions at the Dee, Pullar, and Lakeview with rivals and wear old uniforms and invite the coaches who coached the teams from the 1970's back to help coach the teams and have Ron Mason coach LSSU. Rick Comley coach NMU and Dan Farrell coach MTU since the old MTU HC is dead.
These games would be more exciting then the 13-0 scores of playing exciting Canadian college teams to begin the season.
The WCHA and CCHA could be relieved for one more night by playing these kind of exhibitions in early October to bring the old fans back to where it started at the Pullar, Dee, and Lakeview.
