Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Well sound Jim Roque was on vacation in Buffalo visting Ron Rolston and congratulating him on getting the HC job with the Sabers.

Time to move on this puts halt to Jim going to Buffalo. It is to bad this spilled out if wasnt true. I would hope LSSU Lakers would have a press conference, so they can inform the timeline of the project that hopefully takes place. Time for Doug Weight to donate again to save the program from a downward spiral.

LSSU has a rich tradition and I would hope it would be preserved whether they accomplished it in D2 or D1.
LSSU never played D2 hockey. They played NAIA in the early days, then moved up to NCAA D1. There no longer is a D2 championship for hockey. What does "Well sound Jim Roque was on vacation in Buffalo..." mean?

I think Jim was vacationing in Buffalo hanging out Ron Rolston, not getting an AC job. All the reports are coming out of the Buffalo newspaper not the Soo, so I assume he must be in NY.

You didn't answer my question.

That is a shame. It shows you need more than friendship to move 'up'.

Note the date on that story. It was written Tuesday. It stems from Roque's initial denial of the story that he was leaving LSSU. Also note that the source, Sabres Edge, is nothing more than a fan site/blog. It's hardly what would be an accredited news organization.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

So who is this obvious person who contacted the writer?
The trail begins with the Clarkson University beat writer in Watertown, N.Y. and was picked up by Mr. Mckenzie. From there it took off so someone talked with this writer who probably knows the writer pretty well. This would either be one of these coaches or a close confident to one of these Coaches. There was no release that I could find by the Sabres organization. If Coach Rolston told someone that Coach Roque was coming with him to Buffalo I can guarantee you that Coach Roque told Coach Rolston he was coming.
Why I say this mess was probably created by Coach Roque is that all the reports I read are interviewing Coach Roque. Not one comment by Coach Rolston or the Sabres. Reporters go to the source of the story don’t they. That’s why I say I think this started with Coach Roque. Now, I’m not saying I don’t think there is some truth to the issue and Coach Rolston may have offered Coach Roque a job but when Coach Christian starts Tweeting from Coach Roques office that it’s not true I tend to believe him. Coach Roque went pretty far out of his way to rebute this story. My feeling is that someone jumped the gun and either Coach Roque or the Sabres had a change of heart.

But the guy that reported it was a reporter from the Watertown NY newspaper by a tweet. The Sabres Edge just reported a tweet from accredited newspaper.

And what was in the linked story was put out on Tuesday and was nothing more than a rehash of Roque's initial denia.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Negative....oh yes because there is sooooo much to be positive about the state of this program.....lots of maybes...always lots of maybes...should halves and wishes under Roque's watchful eye....sorry about being so "blue" there Lakerblue but the skies over laker land are anything but blue!

look on the bright side like Michigan Tech fans. Mel finished 8th and 10th respectively his first 2 years and the Husky faithful were ready to throw a ticker tape parade down Sheldon Avenue.

Probably because they are finally happy with the way their program is being run. Something most of us are not.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Hasn't MTU had the money the whole time didn't they build and education center attached to the Student Development Ciomplex for hockey players only in the early 2000's.

Also, up north in Houghton they have many engineers who have jobs two years before they graduate with those hefty starting paying jobs.
You need to do more research. They didn't just have the money. The Peter J. Grant Hockey Educational Center was funded with private donations. A lot of funding for the upgraded coaching salaries and boosts to the budget were also privately funded.

to be honest, i'm not happy with an 8th or 10th place finish. but it's an improvement considering they've been a perennial doormat the better part of 25 years, that being said, i've seen some glimpses this year that the program is slowly beginning to turn the corner under Mel's guidance.

in regards to the money at Tech, it helps to have wealthy alums like Opie, Rockwell, and Grant who are willing to contribute.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

You right I will have do some research on MTU.

They have enginneers, snow, snow, Opie, Rockwell, Grant and snow.
I have read, with interest, your comments on the various sites such as NMU, UAA, LSSU, MTU and Maine. You know a lot about a lot of programs. History, Alumni, potential donors, and have offered some great advice to each program on how they can improve.
Can you give us some great advice on how we can improve as well? For some reason you have left us off your list.
What are your honest thoughts regarding our coach? Is he good for our program or bad? Is he a positive to our community or not? Is he an asset regarding alumni relations or a negative drain? Does he actually help generate money for the program and school or does he repel people away? I can’t tell if you support the assistant coaches or not. Do you think they are quality additions? Is one of them ready to take over the program? Please provide some of your serious thoughts. You seem very in tune to college hockey around the country. Besides your resentment of Mr. Truth Squad I like what you bring.

The Opie family has made many great contributions to Tech over the years. I remember meeting Rocky during his playing days and he seemed like a pretty good guy. The support he and his wife continue to give really has helped with the upgrades to the Ice Arena. Grant is another who shown tremendous long term support to the program and University as well. Tech is very fortunate to have people like this.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Curious is this a LSSU thread or a MTU thread.

What happen to the Rock haters this offseason.

Let's start talking about all the big names of donors that are donating to the July renovation.

I want to hear some input from Mr Coates, Mr Roque and Mrs Dunbar on how things are going the hockey fans in Soo deserve some evidence.

The team needs iice rink improvements to compete in the 2013-2014 WCHA.
What does the phrase "Well sound Jim Roque" mean?

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

eye4talent.................I agree with you that Mel Pearson has made a big difference in a relatively short period of time. It will be very interesting if, whn/if Red Berenson retires fro Michigan, Mel isn't quicklyswept up by the Wolverines after spending decades as Red's #1 assistant.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Any word on who will replace Crawford in the radio booth in 2013-14?
Is it 100% official that Crawford won't be back? The last I knew, there was still a slight possibility he could be back. It might depend upon who (which station) gets the broadcast contract for next season. I'm not that familiar with the radio station landscape in the Soo area, but isn't there pretty much an ownership monopoly there? Are there any stations there not under the Sovereign Communications umbrella? I heard someone in Marquette might be interested in buying a Soo radio station(s); if so, perhaps they could also be a player in who gets the Lakers broadcast contract if they make (or have made) such a purchase. As it is now, if Crawford doesn't come back, Paul VanWagoner has still been doing the weekly (in-season) podcasts with Roque, so I guess he could be a possible replacement. Or if there is some change in radio station ownership by Fall, perhaps we could see someone else. Maybe even if Sovereign still gets the contract, we'll see someone new if Bill doesn't want to do the travel anymore.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Frank was a proven winner when he came in for his second go around.
Why are you so infatuated with the truth sisters?

Neg repped for saying this without signing your name. Pretty cowardly.

I was not saying Frank should even be considered ( if Roque were to even leave for greener pastures ) I was stating that when he was hired the second time he had been a winner and how did that turn out ???
