I think he is the other guy leaving, or being cut, depending upon your interpretation of the term.

Until I hear anything from Wees or Ainsworth directly, I have no interest in speculating why's and how's.

Although, I tend to agree with Lakerblue. This isn't little league. Players that don't perform as planned or live up to expectations will sit the bench. If they want to leave, no one would blame them one bit. But I won't fault a coach for wanting to play better players.

If not, don't you think it's better to hear from the coach before throwing him under the bus. College hockey is like one big family, and if the word gets out that coach so-and-so "cuts" scholarship or recruited walkon players for that matter, it will get to prospects considering that school. Recruiting is not and exact science and mistakes are made. For whatever reasons, an incoming Freshman may quickly learn that he doesn't fir into his new team or the coaches plans for him. I have been an advocate of allowing a Freshman a "window of opportunity", say ten days or two weeks around Thanksgiving time where they can transfer to another school and play right away. This would be a one-time opportunity applying to only to Freshmaen.

You maintain that Wees and Ainthworth chose to leave and use Ravn as evidence that Roque doesn't cut, otherwise he would have been the first to leave.
I tell you that some players including the two above are lured and pushed out, and are given the "choice" between hitting the road or having a hard time. You call it a choice.
Your example is irrelevant because Ravn won't make the choice to leave deliberately due to academics, and would he would stay on campus anyway, going out with his former teammates and closest friends. Cutting him would have to be justified and, considering the facts, it can't.
With so little benefit (changing the practice goalie), it would be completely stupid and risky to open the pandora box, as you never know who is going to be involved, how they react, and how deep they will dig once they start.
The coach chose to have three goalies leaving at the same time. I guess it makes sens to him, or do you believe he missed something ?
Feel free to twist it the way you want.

I'm not criticizing Roque for carrying three goalies, nearly every team carries 3 goalies. You're saying that Roque isn't justified cutting Ravn because Ravn wouldn't transfer and would still hang out with the hockey players and for as inept as most of us think Jim Roque is, even I would give him the benefit of the doubt for thinking that he wouldn't hold on to a player just for the sake of such silly reasons. You further point out that you think it isn't worth JR cutting Ravn because of the "risky" potential consequences of what may happen in the aftermath with regards to the player being scorned, which could make sense IF you also weren't the same person that painted Ravn as such an upstanding individual who wouldn't partake in such activities. You can dress it up with all of the hyperbole you want but the that is what you have said and it is an inconsistent statement, period.

Former Laker Brian Rolston retires as a NHL player.

Rolston had a fantastic career, currently one of the top 150 goal scorers in NHL history and one of the best 50 U.S. born players to play in the NHL. On another Lakers in the NHL note, Oleksy had a beautiful assist in Washington's game 1 two nights ago to notch his first career playoff point in his first NHL playoff game, further adding to his inspiring season.

I just looked over the General Fund budget analysis of LSSU's most recent fiscal year (the link is on the front page of the school website) and the General Fund had a $69,00 budget surplus. The athletic funding is apparently not part of the general fund but it would be interested to take a look at what the athletic budget looks like and how far in the red/black they are and how much the coaches make. If anyone knows of anywhere this info is available already on the internet please share, I'm beginning to be interested enough in this to go through the hassle of filing a FOIA request if not...

By the way, do you seriously believe that anyone in town has a better experience than Roque throwing colleagues, bosses, community members, parents, players under the bus ?
You may consider it is the right way to do the job, but you can't deny it.

Bill.........IMO, there is a difference between a player being "cut" outright and a player and the student/athlete mutally agreeing that the isn't any future in continuing the relationship any further. In the former cas, the student/athlete has no say in the decision. In the later, the decision, while not totally "mutual", gives the air of being mutual. In some cases, the later also can result in the coach signing an outright release recommending the player not sit out a year at the school he transfers. Unfortunately, in the article mentioned, the losely use the term "cancel".

Interesting that the Minnesota Wilderness of the SIJHL won the Dudley-Hewitt Cup and are moving on to the Royal Bank Cup. They beat the St Mikes Buzzers (OJHL) in the championship game. The SIJHL is generally considered to be one of weaker Junior A leagues in Canada. It does have a couple of Minnesota teams in it. Drapluk has a couple of brothers on the Wilderness.

Regarding the players being cut discussion, I think a Coach should absolutely tell the player if he has no intentions of ever playing him. If it has come to that point, the player should know. I also think to include “you can stay around if you want but…..” is just CYA so that it can be said it was the players choice. Telling a player he will never play is a death sentence and the admirable thing to do is to just say “You will still get your scholarship money and if you choose to go somewhere else I will give you your release and an honest evaluation if someone contacts us”. We aren’t talking about a local walk-on player who is on the team for local support or because he has a connection to get on the team, this discussion is about recruited athletes.
I don’t know if you can cut scholarship money that was promised and I think that would be unethical because the mistake in evaluating talent would lie on the staff so my thought is getting a player to leave on their own is a way of recouping scholarship money. So the real question is how are players treated that aren’t wanted? My feelings contradict Mr. Lakerblue who says he has never heard negative comments from Laker players. It is no secret that Eagles goalie Tyler Marble had a bad recruiting experience with Coach Roque but what pushed him over the edge to de-commit to LSSU was the advice of current Laker players. I would hope our players would be our strongest ambassadors. Before someone disputes this do your research.
I don't think this issue has any bearing on recruiting, only the current state of the program and overall chemistry.

Go back and look at multiple years of LSSU financials. Last year was good, but the previous few were in the red. No schools in Michigan publish detailed auxillary budgets or financials, just an overview (if that).

Pretty well much although it was once practically unheard of players losing scholarships unless for disciplinary reasons, things may be changing now though...

I'm not sure what Lakerblue has heard from players but the info I get is that Roque is not a well liked coach....now that in itself is O.K. as a lot of very successful coaches were hated by the players (think of Scotty Bowman, Mike Keenen and Herb Brooks) but those coaches were successful because they knew what strengths and weaknesses their players had and they were able to bring out the best in those players....you just can't say the same about Roque....his players tune him out by the end of the season and actually regress in play.

I've met Nick a handful of times in social settings and he is a stand up kid, and very well spoken...I've also seen him play a few times and although he's not the biggest kid in the world he moves the puck very well....I could see him on the power play for the Wings in a couple years.

I saw how much Pearson Makes at MI tech and that must put him at the highest paid in the WCHA. They paid him 250,000 the first year with a 25,000 bonus and 275,000 last 4 years of the contract with extras that he can earn on top of his salary .

I saw how much Pearson Makes at MI tech and that must put him at the highest paid in the WCHA. They paid him 250,000 the first year with a 25,000 bonus and 275,000 last 4 years of the contract with extras that he can earn on top of his salary .

Only tDon had a higher base in the old WCHA.

I'm positive that Pearson earned a large bonus for ending the GLI drought. I'm guessing he topped $300k this season.

Will be interesting to see how things play out in Mankato with Hastings over the next few years, whether he gets a better offer (as I suspect he will if Mankato cements a place among the Top 3 in the nWCHA), or they start talking an extension with him.
