Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Yeah, I did mean specifically this Monday. I was not sure if they would do one before the exhibition game against USA a week from today, or wait until the Monday after that game.

Also, I guess these threads no longer max out when they get to 1,000 posts.
I don't think the coaches can start participating in practices until this coming week, so if they were to do a show tomorrow evening, Roque would pretty much have to just talk about expectations for the upcoming season and maybe something about the freshmmen. He wouldn't be able to say much about how practices were going. I've seen threads go a little ways over 1000 posts before; it will likely lock up pretty soon.

How is the cotton picking going. Alabamans should stick to something they know about, like tide football.
Mr Morriss you might be a big fish in a very small pond no make that a small puddle. There hasnt been a
real hockey team in Alabama since the Birmingham Bulls and how long did they last. ?
Please feel free to correct the grammer , but didnt someone recently pick on yours ? The last resort of
the mindless.

The ECHL Bulls lasted 10 seasons. Spent many nights there with crowds in excess of 10,000 including 15,000+. Great hockey town!

You've brought more noise and funk before. I'm sorry to see that you're losing your charm. Please tell Derek hi for me.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Thanks for the reminder Laker Dude. Too bad I was away from home until almost 7:00 and missed it. :-(

Was there anything of interest mentioned.

I was surprised when I turned it on at 6 and there was a show.

They talked about the new league. Jim said he does not know much at this point about teams like Anchorage and Mankato. Said it was tough to fill out the preseason poll, not playing teams regularly in the past.

He talked about the freshman some. They recruited more speed with more games on the olympic ice this year. He said Angus and Clemente are smaller quick players. He said Nardi is a special player that could see some time on the point for the power play down the road. Globke was another one he mentioned that came in well conditioned. I believe he said Globke, Radke, and Campbell will be one line combination to star the year.

For returning guys, he stated that Schmitt came back much stronger, and will move to wing this season. Dommett, Perfetto, and Radke will need to produce for the team to be successful. Vernace and McKay also worked hard in the offseason and are much better conditioned.

On defense, things will look the same as last year. Spratte is the 7th D and will get opportunities to play early to earn more playing time. He made it sound like Harris has a lot of work to do in the weight room, and will not have much chance if any to play this year. Drapluk and Loesch worked hard this summer and came back in great shape. He expects good things from Loesch this year.

Not much info on new recruits. I think they have 2-3 lined up that have been posted on here previously, but they did not mention names. They have been able to travel more with back to the attack funds. I believe they noted that all 3 coaches can be recruiting at the same time this season due to changes in NCAA rules, so all 3 coaches have been out of town at the same time some of the past few weekends. He said guys going pro like Robinson, Lain and Jean have led to them having chances to recruit players they would have never had a shot at in the past.

Did he say anything about the goalies? Kapalka and Murdock have both had injury issues; I wonder how healthy they are. Ravn is back but I don't see Roque giving him a chance to play unless the other two guys are injured/ill. Megariotis can't play until next season although he can practice with the team.

Most of the Junior A leagues they recruit in have had showcase tournaments early this season so I expect that all 3 coaches have been traveling quite a bit.

So with everything being so rosy would they pull out and become the toros(WHA)???

Why don't you know your facts before you rattle your keyboard? The Birmingham Bulls did not pull out and become the Toros. The Toronto Toros were moved to Birmingham, where they stayed until the NHL absorbed 4 of the 6 WHA teams. The ECHL Bulls were very successfull for several years, drawing 4 of the Top 10 crowds in ECHL history and routinely put 8,000+ per night in the house on weekends. Eventually the franchise was sold to a bad ownership group that ran it into the ground. Don't believe me, I'd be more than happy to put you in touch with coaches, players, the owner whom I just had lunch with a couple weeks ago and lots of fans I spoke with last weekend in Birmingham. there are at least two pro leagues currently considering the city according to persons I spoke with last week. As for Huntsville, pretty good hockey town too. Their SPHL Havoc averaged over 3,500 per night, about 1,000 more per night than LSSU. UAH averaged better than 2,000 per night in their CHA days, despite playing a lot of Saturday and Sunday afternoon games.

As for the topic of LSSU, this could very well be a surprise team. With strong defense and goaltending, if they can find a way to put a few pucks in the net, it wouldn't be a shock to see them at home in the first round of the playoffs.

If Robinson and Lain didn't leave early, then maybe. The loss of these two players is going to sting but I guess never say never.

He did not really talk about the goaltenders too much. Only really mentioned that they will be relied on early with the defense to carry the team, while some of the young offense man adjust to the D-I game.

Jim did mention how much more firepower they would have if their top line was Lain, Robinson, and Jean this season.

The excuses have already begun and the puck hasn't even dropped up there. As predictable this season as last season, and the year before and the year before and the year before and the year before and the year before and the year before and the year before and the year before. This is the time for you people to get your hopes up and come January, you will be looking for more answers, serving up the same tired old excuses, when the reason is obvious.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Why would a coach bring up players who are not there and tell everyone how much better the team would be if they will still on it? Imagine how much better the team would be if no one ever left .

Gee, the season hasn't even started and you already have them buried. The worst thing about still having Roque is still having you and the other Truth Sister. I'm hoping that they are led by their goalies and D and pull off a few surprises.

All one has to do is look at the last 8 years under this administration, to know exactly how this year will go. It will be another year of double digit losses, bottom third of the standings finishes, inconsistent play, dwindling attendance, same worn out excuses made, vitriol for anyone that points out the reality or truth, and early playoff exits and crowds in the hundreds. I and a couple other have been more accurate year after year after year after year after year than you people who have Lake Superior finishing in the top 4 in October, and then making excuses when that doesn't happen.
