Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Twitch Boy

Defacing this tagline is a MAX foul
Wisconsin coming in looking to catch up to St. Cloud and DU atop the standings.

Tech has clinched a last place finish, so there's not much left to play for except pride. They actually have resembled a hockey team in recent weeks, so they may be able to salvage some with the home ice.

He wanted to beat Varsity Wisconsin to the punch. Twitch gets an +A.

I was thinking about starting it last night, but figured I'd let somebody else do it for once. :D

UW has to sweep this one if they want any hopes of taking the McNaughton and is going to need some help from Denver. Denver is at MSU this weekend and hopefully drops a game while they finish against CC in a home and home. All are very losable games for them, but the odds are against us obviously.

SCSU is on bye this week so we can pass them up in the standings with a sweep, and then they finish at MSU.

We'd have to sweep this week and next week at Minnesota to have a chance and somehow Denver would only have to get 3 points or less.

MSU - Win
MSU - Loss

CC - Tie
CC - Loss

Again, that's not a likely scenario for Denver, but it's plausible.

Meanwhile we have to take care of business up in the UP and I am sure it won't be any cake walk. Winning on the road in the WCHA is tough no matter who it is and MTU has been playing better hockey of late.

We don't need 1st. We just need to stay out of 4th or 5th and the play-in game. I also want to avoid a UW-MN first round match-up. Despite being a dumpster fire of a team, it would salvage their season to screw-up ours.

Re: Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Could be a trap game for Tech, they could be in for a bit of a let down after the euphoria of clinching the spot in the basement. I'm sure they won't let it affect them though.

So. Seeing as how we're locked in the basement...
Does that make us Sloth or the incest child from Harold & Kumar 2?

You could always start threads for the other games. Wouldn't that just tick off the others. :D
Start with St. Crud State. :p

That's actually a great idea! Oh, how ticked people would be. Do it VW! :D

Re: Locked In The Basement: Wisconsin at Michigan Tech, Feb. 26-27

Any suggestions on where to get some food after the game on Friday night and watch the Olympic Semi-Final game? We'll have 2 high school aged kids with, so I'm sure that might eliminate some bars, but looking for more of a sports bar where they should be ok.

Thanks

The standard downtown bars (DT won't let them in, Ambo doesn't have TV's, etc.) would be out if you've got high school aged kids and want to watch the game. There is a new bar/bowling alley/restaurant place in town that might be your best bet. I haven't been there, since I graduated before it opened and I always go downtown after the games. Someone that is up in Houghton these days will have more info.

Yup, DT's definitely out. Applebee's would work. The Rockhouse/Mine Shaft (the place bb_dl mentioned) may work, however after a certain time underagers aren't allowed in the bar area, and I'm not sure if they have TV's elsewhere. If I were you, I would go with ABee's.

If you're talking about the Rock House, then I think so. They can't let the HS kids in to the bar area after a certain point or sit at the bar itself at all, but there's restaurant style seating with view of the TVs where they can sit. It's a little pricey, but a great atmosphere and the food is awesome. :)
