Liu @ rpi 10/14/22

First post in a few weeks...
Had no access to WRPI tonight. Thanks for the lifeline to game action. Holding my breath a few times tonight. And we're 3-0.
Looking forward to the RPI interviews on YouTube a little later tonight.

I was able to get out to the game tonight - pretty small crowd, but folks appeared to be happy to be there and enjoyed the game. Full and boisterous student section behind the bench and the Pep Band kept the energy up (Tho I miss the old variety of cheers - Black Hole being a favorite). Their energy was needed because the first 30 minutes was less than epic hockey. No flow at all to the game - partly because LIU pushed us to take more penalties than in the first 4 games of the season, partially due to some VERY questionable reffing. But the boys took it in stride and seemed to take it up a level during the last 30 minutes - and started getting shots on net which just wasn't happening earlier.

There were a couple times that Watson looked like he was really hurting, but did his thing and pitched the shutout. And Walsh took a slapper off what I'm guessing was his ankle. He immediately left the ice and could be seen in the tunnel first down on his hands and knees, then trying to walk it off. Which he did and I don't think missed a shift. But the two guys that really stood out on the ice to me was first, Jack Brackett, who was just all over the ice tonight. He has that hop in his step of a good skater, skating hard 110% of the time, FAST and just impacting the game every shift. He was fun to watch and I'll be looking for him more this season. And the other was Lauri Sertti who just always seemed to be around the puck. And was one of the several defense man who can SKATE the puck out of the zone - that was great to see for a change! And of course, there was his end to end rush that led to the goal. I was there, but still done know what happened - he didn't score on the rush, but after he passed the goal, the puck disappeared for a moment, and then I saw it fall from the sky behind the LIU goalie and bounce in - some serious puck luck there. And probably the best thing was that they didn't go into a defensive shell once they gained the late lead. Yes, the 2 late penalties with about two minutes left were a factor, but they continued to press right up until the end.

It was great to see a game in person after a few years. I do hope and think the attendance will pick up as the ECAC season kicks off, and as word gets out that this team will be fun to watch! They're generous in their praise of the fans in the media and on the Talkin' Neers and deserve to have a big crowd cheering them on!

Thanks for report, Puckfan90!

Got to see the last period last night, and it reminded me of old time (50s/60s) hockey. Play good defense and wait for an opening or a defensive mistake. I saw a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 games at MSG back then.
Great outcome. I hope for the same tonight.
