Lfc 2015

Re: Lfc 2015

badly out coached again... decision time for AD, stick with current or search for another 3rd in 4 years.

I agree with the others.

2010-2011: 5-21-1
2011-2012: 5-22-0
2012-2013: 10-12-5
2013-2014: 15-12-1
2014-2015: 15-7-5

Some perspective is necessary here. Not too long ago, this program in general, frankly, was in poor shape. They were not competitive in either the original NCHA, or the MCHA before the arrival of St. Norbert and St. Scholastica. I remember one series where Lake Forest came into Adrian, and the Bulldogs shelled them for 21 goals on the weekend, and played quite poorly in the process of doing so. Folks, this was not that long ago. Looking back, that was Coach Fritz's final season.

Needless to say, Lake Forest is a much improved program since then. From what I saw the past couple weekends while watching online, the lighting seems to be improved on the ice, and for once there is a semblance of a student section. The program is certainly on the rise, even though the ending to this season was a disappointment (and for the record, I would also be disappointed if I were a LFC supporter). Teams will come and go from year to year, but you can certainly see the progression of the program from year to year. To change coaches every 2-3 years would certainly disrupt and disjoint any progress being made.

You're on the right track. But stay on that track and don't be in a hurry to derail things now.

Nobody enjoys the season ending early in the conference playoffs but this decision time shouldn't take more than 3 seconds of his day.

Re: Lfc 2015

Agreed, this coach does not deserve to lose his job over this season. However, was he officially hired last summer as the full time coach, or just on an interim basis after McKelvie bolted?

Re: Lfc 2015

Agree with everyone just looking at the numbers and Hammer makes great points about making progress. Lets widen the view a little to see 10 seniors (largest group in a very long time that CONTINUED) to play and yet a team on cruise control. A step back in LFC progress at the end of the year with 4 poor performances against Adrian and CSS. My thought process is not to just give the HC position based on this seasons record alone and to look at how this seasons record was accomplished. I'd console to conduct a coach search to see if there is a candidate that could make the next leap for the team into contention for the league and on a national scale. The Bulldogs had a transition without missing a beat, why can't LFC expectations be really high? If PK is the correct guy to just keep the right direction, I'd like an active debate that is all. If the team would have played for the NCHA (with SNC stumbling) and possibly got a birth I would be of a different mind set. Bottom line is I'd like to see the bar set higher.

I'm a little confused. For a team that has 1 NCAA appearance EVER, and only a handful of winning %'s equal to and or higher than the current year, what bar are you looking to set? You have TWO National Contenders in your conference in SNC and Adrian. Becoming such program does not happen over night. These program (unlike LFC) have YEARS of winning tradition backed with strong admiration support. A "good" coach is just one piece of what makes a program successful. Fogarty left Adrian in good hands. Lake Forrest lost in a mini game to CSS. The did go 0-2 vs Adrian outscored 12-4, but I watched some of it and LFC was playing right with Adrian for some of the game. Adrian just has more talent and finishers. It's great to "want" your team to be a national contender, but its like when your 9 year old tells you he's going to play in the NHL....odds are its not going to happen. It's called being a realist.

Second thing. You want LFC administration to go out and conduct a coaching search....?? I don't know the status of your current coach, but you're telling your new coach "hey bud, we love ya but we want to see what else is out there. So keep working hard, but if we find someone better, you're out". If you want a successful program you need stability. Makes absolutely no sense. 15-7-5 in a conference with SNC and ADRIAN, probably just a couple wins away from being in a Pool C conversation. LFC is just a few players away from becoming legitimate DIII hockey team. Canning your coach, (or searching for a new one) just because you didn't win a title will only make LFC go in the opposite direction. I know success doesn't come often at LFC, but 15-7-5 is something to be proud of. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.....

LFC tied with Adrian for the 2nd fewest goals allowed in the conference and they have their tender and 5 of 6 top d-men returning. I think that's a pretty good start. They need to recruit some quality forwards and they will be top 3 in the NCHA again next season. No need to make any drastic moves.

Re: Lfc 2015

I read your responses and maybe I was not clear enough. LFC had a good season I'm not taking anything away for the coaching staff for the result. The comments in the quote are what I would like to address. 1 NCAA appearance ever, 2 National Contenders in the Conference, no stability with 2 interim coaches and 1HC for a couple of years is not growing the program, in fact it is confusing players looking for a place to play, especially top end prospects that can pick and choose. Granted the facilities are better, top notch no but better. The rink needs some real operations people to start to do little things like fix the zamboni door, put hot water in the zamboni so there is not as much snow build up during periods, dry scrap to remove HUGE ruts for a college game, don't share your locker room......

A new coach and staff has to recruit better and build some relationships (stability), the Chicago area has plenty to choose from a USHL and NAHL teams too. Being a realist I'd like the AD and the school do a search and have the current coach compete for the job, give his vision and process for recruiting and developing players so the school can compete with Adrian and SNC. Have a coach that understands the competition you play against also helps getting into the NCAA.

My fear is that LFC stays the course and hires the known quantity, the players, students, alumni, fans and parents deserve better. Is there a better choice other than the current staff? IDK I'd just like to push them for why they should be kept.

Re: Lfc 2015

I guess we have to agree to disagree. I want more and better you are content with incremental movement.

Re: Lfc 2015

15 wins in a season after a few years and there is fault in that? This is what they call "uptown" problems. Heck I am tickled with a winning season this past season.

Re: Lfc 2015

That is because you are all satisfied with low expectations, I guess loosing for a number of years has made nirvana easy to obtain.

And you have failed to find anyone on the planet who agrees with you.
So nobody will come out and play with you.
