Lfc 2012-13

Re: Lfc 2012-13

Ok ok ok....maybe I got a little ahead of myself. MW49 you are right if they have another bad season. I was saying if everything went well and they really did good. Do I expect them to win 13 games? no. That would be the best possible scenario though. I say this because I have seen them have ties with Marian going into the 3rd and also with Adrian and St. Norbert over the years. When they play very defensively, they can keep up for the most part, but need a lot of work. LFC kets killed every time though when they take a penalty. Also, their incoming goalie has a 90% save average in the NAHL last year. For all we know, he may be playing a good amount for them. I see some talent in the recruiting class, which may change some peoples opinions on how the season will go. The players they are brining in are better than Finlandia and Northlands and on par with Marian and Lawrence's incoming recruits. They will add some depth on the blue line and defensively. I feel coach did a pretty good job showcasing his recruiting efforts here.

These are recruits that are on d3hockey.com....but I have listed a few others that I have heard about and who are confirmed students at the school.

G Austin Severson
Kenai River Brown Bears (NAHL)

D Keil Zornow
Kenai River Brown Bears (NAHL)

D Robert Wiener
Traverse City N. Stars (NAHL)

F Alec DeAngelo
Chicago Hitmen (NAHL)

F Ian Pichel
Kanata Stallions (CCHL)

D Luke Kucera
Springfield Pics (EJHL)

D Peter Nesper
Finlandia University (MCHA D3)

You forgot 3 important points.1) Not all of the recruits for these 4 schools are listed on D3hockey.com. I know that Marian and Lawrence have a handful of recruits not listed, and no I'll not divulge their names. That is the job of the Head Coach or SID. 2) Since all 4 of these teams were ahead of LFC last year, with Marian and LU significantly so, having a slightly better or on par with recruiting class does nothing for LFC's efforts to close the gap. 3) If I recall his bio, Coach McKelvie's DI coaching strength was recruiting, not in game decision making. That did show itself at times last year.:o

Re: Lfc 2012-13

Whoa there rocks. I think you're getting ahead of yourself. Sullivan was the only reason LFC got a few wins toward the end of the season. He's good and he has a quick glove , but he was extraordinarily hot the last few weeks of last year. I highly doubt that he will be able to keep it at that pace through an entire season.

Look for LFC to have some place in the area of 6 wins for the year.:( They may steal one of the two games versus St. Mary's and one of the two versus Finlandia, only because those 4 games are all at LFC. They may get one out of four from CUW and MSOE because its difficult for teams to sweep a 4 game set, and LFC seems to always get one dart in against MSOE.:D I don't see them getting anymore than two wins out of their 6 games with Marian, Lawrence, or Northland, and they most certainly won't sweep any of these teams. Simply, Northland is a small sheet of ice and games there get very physical. The Jacks are much bigger and harder hitters than the Foresters. If LFC has a solid weekend up there they could split the series. Marian and Lawrence both have as good or better goaltenders than LFC. They both have more offensive firepower than LFC. Marian and LU are also deeper than LFC at the blueline. Odds are these 2 teams won't have key players injured when they play LFC this year. Marian and Lawrence are equally talented. Marian is more physical than LFC, and Lawrence is faster than LFC. IF Sully stands on his head during these games LFC could steal one of the four games. LFC will not be able to handle road games at UWSP and Hamline. Those are losses. Regarding Adrian..... LFC has no chance.;)

Bottom line, every team in the MCHA will be better this year than they were last, and CUW got significantly better. This means LFC will be battling Northland for 7th place.

Ouch!!! the truth sometimes hurts. To be competitive the team needs to get more mature, older and find its leaders. As is heard a lot.... Here we go!

Correct.... the new head coach jitters should be gone now.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

D3 dad, I like your thinking. I also totally agree on the idea of a fan club.

A good start would be to track down a longtime loyal LFC poster who is/was well known in this forum as "fornax".
If you search the archives you will find the great spirit you are looking for.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

The team has mostly reported in with first meeting this Friday!
The second season begins.... more rink imporvements (roof), better planning and understanding of the school and the league, better concept of competition, a new training staff. The realization that alums can help .... let them.

The team its talent level and commitment will be determined in the next few weeks.....

Re: Lfc 2012-13

D3 dad, glad to hear the program is looking much better than it did last year. Keep us informed on how Friday's meeting goes. I must say, I was looking on their website, and saw the pictures of the newly added coaches....coaches look D1 sharp in those suits. Hopefully, LFC is going in the direction of success. I like there recruiting class a lot, and it looks like a strong group of players. I noticed the D'Agostino brothers are not returning, along with another forward. Also, noticed they added Ethan Goldberg to the staff, and Joel Gard is an asst. Should be a good group. The pre-season will determine how well this team will perform. Also, i know LFC does not have ice until October. I hope the players can skate somewhere before that. Should be a good season with needed improvements.

Well I continue to hear positives from the first few meetings..... they need ice workouts before october and nobody is talking about that.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

There are plenty of ice sheets in the area they could use for Captains practice if their rink isn't available until October. Lake Forest Academy and Highland Park would probably be the closest. If I remember correctly, LF Academy's facility is nicer than the College's as well...

LFC could also get ice at nearby Vernon Hills or the NSIA in Northbrook. The area youth clubs have just started their seasons so ice will be harder to get unless you go for late nite sheets.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

D3 Dad..... Are you really on here reporting as to what your family member is telling you.....really?

They will be all set with ice, I'm sure they will handle it, as for your reporting of what you are hearing, let's hope we also hear you report back when your family member is counting shots in the stands!!!!!!!!

MW, keep up the canter, always fun to read!

Mr Dangles.... why the attack i've not posted anything that is not public and nothing against LFC. If people who are for LF hockey comment on this board that is cool I hope more get involved and the team gets better. I've been in hockey for many years and at the college level I don't want anything more than to see good hockey if mine is in the stands so be it .... it's his spot to earn.

MW49 with your grasp of the LFC situation what do you believe is the upside this season?

Re: Lfc 2012-13

He probably is still disgusted with the Forester Athletic Department. That was about the time they severed ties with Coach Gregory.:o

I've had good talks with Coach Gregory and Coach McKelvie and from what I've been exposed to so far I can understand Fornax departure. After last season Gregory should have a smile with with what he accomplished. McKelvie's feet are now wet so expectations have raised with his product.

To compete in the MCHA a few programs will have to raise their games. I hope Fornax comes back....

I have an opinion, I don't really know how firm the grasp is on LFC's situation.

I've heard that Sully has looked good in net the few times some of the locals have seen him. That is definitely good news for the Foresters. Sadly, Goldberg forgoing his Senior year to coach and not play is a loss on the ice. He is a solid defensive forward and is good at distributing the puck. Two years ago, when he was on the line with Cutler and Bushbacher, they were very productive and interesting to watch. The bright side of him being added to the LFC coaching staff is multifaceted. He is very knowledgeable and will help the team with skill development. I've heard that he spent the summer working for Pro Ambitions, a national skills development clinic/ camp, and worked as an assistant skills instructor with Delaney Hockey. Mr. Delaney is the skating and skill development coordinator for the NHL Chicago Blackhawks.
Coach McKelvie was wise to get him involved with his staff because Goldberg is also well known and respected in the Northshore Chicago area youth hockey bubble. He could be helpful in getting LFC Hockey on a positive track in the local community. That is something sorely needed if LFC wants to grow its presence in the area.
Some of the recently added recruits look to be possible impact players. Overall, time is LFC's biggest asset.

RE Coach Gregory: Great guy as is McKelvie. Its not so much what happened to Gregory, its how it was done and by whom.;)
