Lfc 2012-13

Re: Lfc 2012-13

MW....

Good points,if you speak as high as you do about Goldberg, I will take your word.

I do remember as a rookie in when team was in the NCHA and then disappeared and was back, was a little surprised that he basically had a career year with Gregory and then was buried but who knows what goes on. Not sure if he is still a little close in age but time will tell I guess, but again you did lay out a good case.

As for D3 Dad, talking to both coaches, I guess that says enough about him.

I'm still a little baffled by Bushbacher, isn't he from the area, I mean what happened?

At any rate MW, maybe you should start writing a column, GO FALCONS!

Dangles, thank you for the confidence.
Goldberg did have his career best that season, and he was instrumental in Bushbacher scoring 20pts. (12g-8a)in the final 13 games of the season. BTW, Ventura replaced Cutler in those last few games when Cutler had a season ending injury. Ironically, LU's B. Scurfield and Bushbacher had career seasons this past year while their line mate, Hughes, matched his best year in goal scoring.

Yes, Bushbacher is from that area. LFC's program is always in flux regarding recruiting (Ex. Prep schools, locals, Canadian Juniors). In the Spring of '09 Fritz and Gregory, his recruiter, thought a combo of the later 2 groups would be best. They found Bushbacher up in Aurora, Ontario playing on the same team as Sullivan. Gregory's recruiting skills netted both guys and nearly 10 other OJHL players. I guess that playing for the local college, which has a good academic rep, and having that many fellow recruits that you know seemed like a good thing. The LFC coaching staff also made it a given that Gregory would be the HC when Fritz stepped down. In June '10 Fritz abruptly retires and Gregory was given the "interim" tag. Red Flags went up around the ardent followers of the Foresters. Several of Gregory's recruits left LFC for a myriad of reasons. The 2010-2011 season went on, the "interim" tag stayed, losses and injuries mounted, the confidence of some eroded, and a scapegoat was needed. Well, Gregory was an easy target.
When the interviews started it quickly became apparent that Gregory was not going to get the HC job. At that time a few of the players felt it was time to leave LFC.

Currently, the focus has been on off-ice conditioning through dryland sessions and strength training sessions with the school’s newly appointed strength and condition coordinator, Zach Cahill. The ice on campus will be ready on September 24, and the players will have the opportunity to skate for the three weeks leading up to the start of tryouts. Therefore, looks like tryouts start on the 10/11. Also every player must perform a minimum of 5 hours of community service per semester this year.

10/11? Tryouts where the coach isn't allowed to watch?

opps typo on my part 10/17 I believe is better.

Also there is a NEW facebook page which can be found by searching Lake Forest College Men’s Hockey and a NEW Twitter handle = @lfcpuck.

I'm hearing the intention is to provide live game updates, pictures, reminders of important dates and events, and news on the men’s hockey team for those who want to follow the team.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

My guess is LFC will start skating with coaches on 10/15 - just like every other D3 school in the nation, I'd imagine.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

D3 Dad, are you saying it will take from Monday to Sunday to find out who has made the team? I hope that is not the case, as Stevens Point will destroy LFC if they have not had enough team practices. I imagine the team is mostly made, but they need some practices if they want to be effective with a god team. Also, what is the "test"? Any changes and improvements to the team, and how do you think they will do this year?

I've got ex-players on both teams and the approach to the beginning of the season for both coaches is really different, I have my concerns for how prepared LFC will be against SP. The "test" is on-ice stuff I believe. I think the D should be improved but young, scoring is the big unknown, small steps forward is how I'll characterize the year.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

maybe a little more puck control in practice and the frosh learned some about speed of the game yesterday. 0-5 ouch

Re: Lfc 2012-13

Based off of how things went yesterday, I would be a little concerned. LFC had no offense. period. I feel like they brought in some good players, but really need to find scoring. A team like CUW, with 23 "Freshmen" held their own with SNC, losing 0-4. However, there is nothing to be ashamed of in that score. D3's best team only beat D3's worst team 4-0. That is sarcasm, but I think you get the point, that CUW has significantly improved. I say this because LFC needs to take after them. CUW's coach changed everything, and look where they are now. LFC needs to do the same. They are capable of having a successful year this year with 10 or more wins. 10 should be a goal though. This can only happe if they are good consistently, which was not the case last night. I feel like playing a team that is much better than you in the 1st week of the season must be kind of demoralizing, which is not what LFC needs at all. THEY NEED A W! Marian is another good team, that was a 2-2 tie game going into the 3rd last year at LFC. They need to win that one, and go 1-1. If they lose both, I feel it is safe to say it will be a repeat of las year.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

Mr. D.... nope not a healthy but played like he should have been one. For someone as cynical as you, surprised your interested at all in LFC. The team needs builders not a destruction crew.

Give Mr. Dangles a break, because that's somewhat of an amusing statement knowing that LFC has had a glorified 'fox in the hen house' for sometime now.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

Five games into the new campaign and the Foresters are sitting at 1-4-0. As I sat there watching the game last night with my friends we noticed some familiar things about LFC. The first was that their elder statesmen were either sitting in the stands injured or they were in the upper stands broadcasting the game. This has been an all too repetitive sight over the past 3 seasons. Secondly, they still can't score. Having 7 goals in 5 games, or 1.40 gpg, just won't cut it if you want to win. Lastly, sporadic energy, poor on ice decisions, and some questionable penalties.

On the other hand the defense was good. The Blueliners were an improvement and the young goalie looked solid. This is what will have to carry LFC going forward.:)

BTW, Adrian comes to town next weekend.

Re: Lfc 2012-13

And I intend to get my first look at Lake Forest this next weekend. The operative word there is "intend".

Re: Lfc 2012-13

MW...

Where have you been??

You have to feel for the Coach, I'm sure he had know idea of the Mickey Mouse operation he was walking into , but on the flip side...no recruits of consequence whatsoever.

Took in some parts of the game, they have nothing! Period! As for the young man online....that's one of their senior leaders??? Just carving the program and giving his input?? What has he done....they won't make the play- offs!

Re: Lfc 2012-13

Mr. Dangles,
It says something about the LFC program when the guy they promote as the "2 time MVP" has spent as much time broadcasting home games the last 2 seasons as he does on the ice.:rolleyes:
