Leopards Ate My Face! The Official Thread.

Handy, I'm not sure anyway has called me a Centrist before, or paid to state an opinion.

I am not saying I'm sure it's true, but it is plausible, and it has the advantage of being an argument on the merits from someone close to the action instead of a reflexive scream of rage from the bleachers.

I know the second casualty of war is sanity, but maybe let's not kill Robespierre 59 days in, eh?

I also find it plausible. Sadly. The argument is that they are doing it anyway and no one is stopping them. Schumer seems to think there is some stoppage. It'd be nice to be able to report on that by a competent media but alas we do not have one.

I think either way it's gone. No one is standing up against them. They are getting railed at town halls and it doesn't matter.

If that was part of his reasoning, why not say it? It's not like he's hiding some secret that by saying it out in public, the republicans will suddenly figure out that's the way to ruin the country.

Instead, he talks about how he slurps up the sweat of the republicans next to him on the bike and that that will save the country.

He did say it in an interview but the part that got mass reported was him sucking off the sweat of his fellow Senators on the right.

I wasn't calling you a Centrist (I am not Trixie) I was saying that was what the Centrists tried to use as an argument for why the Dems shouldn't fight. It was quickly destroyed by everyone else. The voters for sure weren't buying it and as I said, the Federal Workers said it was horse[bleep]. I respect what Dr. Mrs. is saying but if the union grunts were willing to take the hit to try and keep the barbarians from breaking down the gate I am going to side with them...they have the most to lose.

Normally I would have backed that play because the Dems would get killed for the shutdown and the long term gain would be minimal. In this case though there is no long term goal...it is now just obstruct anything and everything Trump and Musk are doing. That is what the people want, and what the country needs. Since this is not some whiny fight about the debt ceiling anymore the Dems can't pretend this is a normal fight...they need to be willing to chain themselves to the Capitol Doors and say "If you want to burn down the house you have to go through us first!" And, if we do long term goals...they think if they treat Trump like Labor treated Johnson (and like the Dems treated Trump in his first term) that they will crush the Midterms and then they can really obstruct. Well even if we assume that is true (it isnt...and polling shows they are more hated now than ever before) he gets two years to destroy everything and even when they get power they will have zero power to fix it. They would be doing CPR on a person who died 2 years ago...

Put it this way, Dr. Mrs. fears are real...but the problem is what she fears is happening anyways. The Government is being shuttered piecemeal as we speak. My SO knows people in a different part of the Federal Government (Army Corp of Engineers) and the chaos alone from constant issues and threats of closing (not to mention a full on hiring freeze) have paralyzed them. Day to day their life is beyond stress...and as of now they aren't even in DOGE's sites since they never really ticked off Musk. Lets not forget, that half the reason Trump is doing all this is to create such chaos that people quit...well we are there. The fact that they ignore all court orders means they aren't stopping. Even if the Dems win in 20 months or whatever does anyone think Congress will be able to stop them? Any chance of that died when the Dems capitulated. Trump now has partial power of the purse (which again, he will only expand) and the Dems now dont even have the clout to fight...the GOP knows they dont have the stones to do what must be done.

Remember, at the time it was probably the "right" decision for Chamberlain to let Hitler do what he did too since Europe couldn't handle another war. The problem is terrorists will always put you in the position where you can't win so it is better to take the lesser of two evils. If you dont try and stop it when it starts, by the time you have the resources to really put up a fight it is already too late. Its March and the country is already on fire...and we havent even got to the big stuff yet. Trump and Musk have done more damage in 2+ months than any other President has done in 2 terms...and the people need someone who is willing to actually try and stop them. The Dems could have done that, instead they bowed to the inevitable just like the media, the corporatists and everyone else. That is what they just showed everyone. Whats the point of fighting for tomorrow if you the house is on fire right now?

I just don't understand how Schumer and the Dem consultants think people are going to flock to them to vote in the midterms after two years of them sitting back and letting Donnie do everything he can to harm them.

It's the firemen just standing there and letting the house burn down. Not gonna inspire much confidence in the people believing the firemen will help them.

It is a mystery. As I stated above but this time with more detail Schumer in numerous interviews BELIEVES that by voting for the CR he keeps the government open and Trump is able to do less.

He props up that entire argument by saying that he does not believe we are at the Constitutional Crisis stage yet.

I personally do not believe him.

It was reported, pretty much every one of the Senators said it as well when they made their decision public. And on its face it makes sense. The problem is they are pretending they can negotiate their way out of this...they are the FBI morons in Die Hard who don't realize that Hans Gruber is going to blow up all the hostages so he can steal the money and get away without anyone knowing about it. They aren't even playing the same game...

I used to teach a college course on negotiation and I look at what the Dems did and I just can't believe how bad they are at this...especially Schumer. If you are going to bend the knee...get something! How about make them throw out the provision that the House added to give Trump more power? How about restrictions on Musk and DOGE? Anything! They didn't ask for anything and they got nothing. Because truth is they weren't doing this to protect workers or anyone else...they did it because they want to protect their position. They think they are safer this way. They made a pragmatic decision...like the Dems always do. Look busy and do nothing and keep your head down. And it went over so badly even the House Dems revolted against them. Do Nothings like Jeffries attacked them for it. Corporate Shills like Pelosi went after them. When the House Dems have more of a spine than the Senate Dems we are screwed because the Senate has built in protection for the minority...unless the minority doesn't want it.

No one does, because we are. (Article III for example is all but null now) Schumer is a mark at best and a collaborator at worst. He thinks the GOP in the Senate are his friends...meanwhile they know he is easily manipulated.

Think about this...Zelenskyy comes to the US and meets with The Senate. The Senate GOP and Senate Dems both talk with him, assure him we are their ally and take pictures with him. (Klobuchar and Graham do one together) Then Trump bullies him and the very same Senate GOP flips on a dime and attacks him. Because they aren't playing by normal rules, they do what Trump says. Thune is a spineless loser who doesn't care about decorum or what is best for the country/government, he cares about power and Trump has power. The Dems are every sports team that plays by the rules and gets smoked and then whines about how they did it the right way.

He said it himself...it worked in 2017. He is banking on past results predicting future outcomes.

I'm with you. I literally saw him on The View (they actually hammered him pretty hard) saying he does not believe we are at the Constitutional Crisis stage.

I am not a Senator. I am pretty ignorant overall of all this stuff to be honest.

But I cannot wrap my brain around how he comes to that conclusion. Trump is running over everything with impunity. In a sane World he would be impeached, and not receive a single vote in favor of keeping him in office.

But, then again, this electorate put him in office again. It's sad, depressing, and infuriating all at the same time.

They’ve turned (for now) many people into “I’ll just not bother voting”

Ding ding ding

The union grunts were the ones to back here

He doesn't think we're in a Constitutional Crisis because Donnie hasn't yet defied a Supreme Court ruling

Like lower court rulings don't matter, and you can defy them at will unless the Supreme step in and render final judgement.

You don't like a lower court ruling, then you can appeal. You don't get to just ignore it.

Yup. Schumer is tacitly agreeing with them that lower courts don't matter. Then why have them?

This just made by brain melt when he said it. Christ. Ignoring any court order is equal. There is no differentiator.

My two cents (I only skimmed some of the replies): I'm pissed that Schumer didn't put up a fight and STILL hasn't put up a fight.

Kepler, either in this thread or elsewhere, said that it was either 'attempt to limit the damage by handing them a lighter but hold onto the gas can; or let them shut the whole thing down, take both the lighter and the gas can, and burn the whole thing to the ground unsupervised.'

My issue is Chuck isn't getting ahead of the future messaging. He could have explained this better, and likely could or should have made more public effort to fight for something.

Its the lack of fight that gets me. and he's being destroyed on his media tour and won't even defend it now.

Chuck stood there, knowing it was a fastball up and away, and all I wanted him to do was swing. Just one swing. But the bat never left his shoulder.

At least Jeffries swung. May have been a terrible, terrible pitch, but at least he took the chance.

Chuck's the now the guy who comes back to the dugout and just sits at the end after the at bat and doesn't talk to his teammates. Weird, but he used to be the guy who would let the next batter know the pitcher tips his pitches and here's what the high and away pitch looks like.

Dude became a DH in his career twilight just hoping the checks keep depositing.
