Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?
They are full of it. The lower bowl was full of empty seats and the "extra" 350 seats are the ones in the balcony that's already open. If they "opened up" more of the balcony, why was the seat mafia swarming people with five or more staff members trying to kick them out? They are full of it. People started sitting there and refusing to leave and UAA staff gave up. I watched it happen and I have photos.
I'll admit that there was confusion as to why the balcony was opened up when there were empty seats down below - but the mezzanine seats
were all sold out. Sponsors might not have shown up, students who picked up their
free tickets in advance may not have shown up (no big surprise there), and those who had season tickets may not have attended. These seats showed up as "tickets sold" and the seats cannot be sold a second time. You know what, they actually had to open up additional stock on Ticketmaster for those who wanted to purchase at the door, meaning they had to open up the balcony for seating. Yes, there were lots of seats open, I agree with you on that, but they weren’t available on the manifest to purchase because they had already been purchased prior.
You can choose to disbelieve this, (and you probably will) but it is the truth. Another reason why there were so many empty seats in the south mezzanine is because once the balcony opened up people who had purchased tickets in the lower bowl moved up there. Sully staff didn't check their tickets like they should have. Do me a favor, go to the Guns & Hoses game this year - get there early, and try to sit in the balcony. They will have chains across there so you can't get through. You will have bought a general admission ticket, meaning in theory you should be able to sit anywhere you want, except you WON'T be allowed to sit in the balcony if the lower bowl is not full. It's not a hard concept to grasp.
Look Mike, you wanted some big changes at UAA, and they have stepped up to the plate and have made big changes and they are trying to make things better for the hockey program. According to the article Doyle Woody wrote, the new coach wants the balcony closed off - he has undertaken a program that has had a lot of problems, and he is trying to get it back on track. Give him a chance. Give the changes a chance. I'm sure the Sullivan Arena staff will be discussing all of this, as will UAA administration. I know that Sullivan Arena staff were in a meeting about the seating before the UAA game on Saturday night. Please wait and see what they come up with before publishing a lot of negative stuff on facebook or the ADN, ok? If you are a true fan and want hockey to succeed at UAA, have some patience and see how this all shakes out.
