Just what IS "marriage" anyway?

Re: Just what IS "marriage" anyway?

those high risk behaviors do not fall randomly across all demographic sectors of our society.

I agree with this completely. I just often see HIV infection as a way people use to demonize homosexuality. I think it would be best (for people who choose) to demonize high risk behaviors instead of a sexuality.

I am in no way saying you (or others) are demonizing homosexuality, just having a conversation.

It's only a matter of time before HIV, or whatever the new virus will be, results in the complete banishment of sexual intercourse, and the only way to create life is through a test tube.

Fair enough. Appreciate the dialogue. I don't agree with demonizing folks on either side of this or other issues.

Re: Just what IS "marriage" anyway?

That's pretty much always been the case. "You have the right to a free press as long as you own the press"

I wonder if the Catholic Vote would have a problem if the speaker were supporting gay marriage and the objector was against...

Don't ask him hard questions.

If it was at a Catholic College, or at any college where the doctrinal statements say its a no-no (BYU or Liberty come to mind), then yes, for the simple reason that the speaker should never should have been invited in the first place.

The same could be said if you had Jane Fonda give a keynote at a VFW convention. Somebody would raise holy heck.

Re: Just what IS "marriage" anyway?

My definition of marriage... being with the one you want to be with for the rest of your lives. For good and for bad.

Re: Just what IS "marriage" anyway?

Rhode Island becomes the 10th state to allow it, overcoming a heavily Catholic opposition.

Only 40 more to go, or really probably 20 before SCOTUS is comfortable enough to jump in fully and make it national.

Re: Just what IS "marriage" anyway?

The declaration from Jason Collins that he is gay also caused some people to note that his identical twin brother is not. That led someone else (link not handy) to review some studies on correlation among identical twins on how many of them had the same sexual orientation (in other words, is "homosexuality" genetic?)

upon review of the evidence beyond this one set of twins, if i recall correctly, it appears that statistical studies of identical and fraternal twins have found that "homosexuality" is not highly correlated with heredity, though the correlation is twice as high for men as it is for women. Some have interpreted this to mean that there might be a "predisposition" based on genetic factors that requires an environmental trigger.
