Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

How much time did the NCAA put into investigating the Ohio State situation vs. the Manziel situation? Heck how much time did the NCAA put into the investigating the Kerdiles situation vs. the Manziel situation? In the USC/Bush situation Bush denied doing anything just like Manziel has. Despite this denial the NCAA didn't just give up, they pursued an investigation for a good amount of time and found that Bush and/or his family had broken rules. The NCAA, as usual, picks and chooses what, when and who they want investigate, hassle and punish. In the Bush case they wanted to, so they did. In the Manziel case they didn't want to, so they didn't.

Exactly. Pick and choose.

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

Dirty, tell me...what did they not investigate about this manziel thing? My impression is he's simply smarter or has a smarter support group around him than the kids who do get bagged. Sounds like he knew exactly what he was doing and that there was no chance they'd ever be able to prove anything.

Again, the NCAA has bagged big time players and programs before.

Pick and choose what?
Kerdiles, there was proof his room was paid for by the agent, regardless of whether the money was paid back, the violation still occured.
Find me any actual proof that Manziel took money.
In this situation, someone would have to actually find the money, (not likely considering it was probably cash and he is already well off so high spending in his situation wouldn't be unusual) or someone has to talk and he isn't, he aide isn't and the broker isn't.
A&M may get punished after he goes and that is usual with the NCAA and it sucks, but it won't be because they found money, it'll be because someone talked, likely the broker.

They spent what four hours talking to him? What exactly did they investigate? Maybe you're right though and Manziel, who has proven himself to be a complete buffoon in the past few months, really did cover all his tracks but the NCAA still seems to have spent relatively little time looking into the situation. They probably spent more time investigating Manti T'eo's imaginary girlfriend then they did Manziel taking money for autographs.

He went out and signed thousands of dollars worth of merch. The NCAA will punish A&M itself after Manziel has gone "pro" jut like Reggie Bush and USC. And by "go pro" I mean "get cut before the regular season by the Bills or Jaguars."

"Did you take money for signing those autographs?"
'Nope'
"There are media reports that these guys have admitted giving you cash"
'No one paid me.'
"Good enough for me. Good luck against Rice next weekend."
'They gave the cash to my friend instead.'
"What did you say?"
'Nothing. Can I get to practice now?'
"Sure thing. Sorry to bother you."

I agree he likely got paid, but what you and I and EVERYONE else may believe means zilch without proof.
Either find the money, or get someone to talk, since those aren't likely to happen, they can't touch him.
Is it fair? No
Is it right? No
But that's the way it is.

It's the NCAA using loopholes in the rules to their advantage. Like usual. I promise there will be sanctions against A&M next summer after this big dummy leaves school.

Ya I just don't think it has anything to do with conference affiliation

Right. A few years ago the logical final game would have been rematch of Mich/OSU, but we couldn't have that. Now we get couple SEC teams every other year!

I think you're on to something. The BCS was created 15 years ago or whatever it was to only help the SEC! Now, of course the Big Ten rep in the title game you're talking about got steamrolled by an SEC team...yet two Big Ten teams should have had a rematch for the title? Thankfully that didn't happen, a case where the BCS worked. People have this thing where they are so reluctant to simply acknowledge that the SEC is in fact the best conference. Fact, not opinion. It is what it is. And I'm not even a fan of an SEC team.

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

And I'm not sure what you're talking about in regard to having less evidence against ohio state. That just isn't true. Nobody from ohio state even denied what was found out.

Well it was pretty hard to be blind to the players new tats. :p

spot on, they DO pick and choose who and what they investigate and how intense the investigation is.

and as an aside -just watching the highlights from yesterday this "Johnny Football" horse**** has gone straight to his head. I hope he enjoys his time in the spotlight before he joins the CFL

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

Um, Timothy A, the reason Manziel wasn't bagged for real is because the NCAA couldn't prove it. Sucks, but it is what it is.

They should not have rushed to complete the investigation before the season started. They should have said he's innocent until proven guilty, he can play during the investigation, but if he's found to have broken the rules, there would be penalties to him and T A&M. I've always thought that the ncaa loves to bag these schools on violations, and they've busted kids/schools for way less than this, I'm just shocked they didn't perform a more proper investigation.

It's really laughable these sports agents virtually ran to ESPN to tell them he was paid, but then they all clam up when the NCAA comes calling. I'm pretty confident had the investigation been a long term one, they would have got some evidence. All they needed was one person to decide to spill the beans.

I wonder on the Kerdiles deal, how did the ncaa come to know of the situation; we'll probably never know.

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

The Heisman has everything to do with it. It is one thing to take one away after the player has left college, no one will really care a month later. (it certainly hasnt ruined the NCAA or Bush) To strip the reigning winner, who just so happens to still be playing and will probably be one the top contenders to win it again? That is a public relations nightmare and it will stick with the NCAA not only this season, but all of next season as well seeing as he is a sophomore. It is in their own best interest to look the other way.

As for what Priceless said, last I checked Oregon hasnt been pimpslapped for the violations they committed. tOSU was allowed to play suspended players in the Sugar Bowl...as long as it is a major conference team the NCAA just doesnt care anymore.

I think they should have completed a thorough investigation and kept him off the field with the threat of possibly losing the entire year depending on what they found. If one night in a hotel room cost Kerdiles 30% of his frosh season (even after the ncaa found his parents paid the agent back) and the NCAA was seeking an entire year for that mistake, this Manziel kid getting paid for autographs (he certainly seems to have intentionally sought those opportunities) seems like a no-brainer he should be suspended for a healthy % of A&M games.

My question is what told them to stop the investigation? The clock? "uh oh, opening kick off in a couple of weeks, we can't have Mr. Football on the sidelines now can we?"

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

Twitter. It all started because of a picture tweeted by Pulver Sports with Kerdiles holding a (BioSteel?) container.

Re: Johnny Manziel vs Nic Kerdiles

Unless it's USC.

Rule number 1 of corrupt organizations... if you make them look stupid you will get punished. USC was flagrant and open. Miami you had to get into the details but they should have been nailed. Etc.

The social offense becomes worse than the infraction.
