Jersey etiquette

Re: Jersey etiquette

Wearing a jersey & hat combo representing pro teams from 2 completely different cities and/or areas.

So my wife should not have gone to Fenway last year wearing a Mike Lowell jersey and Brewers hat? (especially since the game was against Milwaukee) Good to know.

Was my awful Bob Ueker impersonation out of bounds too?

Re: Jersey etiquette

I think the key element we all seem to be missing is that you need to wear pants, or at least shorts, with your jersey. Trust me on this ... :D

The answer to "Does this really require pants?" is always "no."

Acceptable:

Wearing a college jersey to a pro game.
Wearing a pro jersey to a college game.
Wearing any baseball hat of any team to any game (without jersey).

Not acceptable:

Wearing a 3rd party team pro jersey to a pro game not involving either team (aka someone wearing a Yankee jersey to a Red Sox-Orioles game in Baltimore where you're just begging to be an *** clown. Same holds for every team). If you feel the need to represent your team then go with an understated hat and just be happy that they let you into the stadium.

hmm...I don't agree with these.

My friend and I used to make fun of people wearing their pro jerseys to college games (unless it is of a specific player who previously played college). Typically we'd comment, "I'm going to a hockey game so I'll wear my one hockey related article of clothing".

And I wear my teams colors at games they aren't playing all the time. I enjoyed going to a Red Sox-Tigers game in Detroit wearing my Orioles shirt and with a friend in his Twins jersey. I like sports and will go to games my team doesn't play in...but I want everyone there to know just who "my" team is.

But pantsless always gets a lot more looks and comments (whether or not they're positive depends on other factors). Just don't go shirtless, only Bob and Guy are allowed to do that.

"I seem to have misplaced my pants."

And on the hat/shirt mismatch issue, I have a Brewers hat which I wear a lot because it's a nice neutral navy color. I wear it with almost everything, including shirts/jerseys from pro teams from other cities.

I dunno, I wore a Redskins sweatshirt to a Steelers@Raiders game and no one seemed to care. Of course, none of the Oakland fans could probably read, so they didn't know what them crazy symbols on my chest meant.

Re: Jersey etiquette

I remember a very interesting debate on these boards some years ago where some people believed that fans over 30 should not wear hockey jerseys at all on moral grounds....

While I believe people who don't wear jerseys to games should be shot in the face on moral grounds.

Well then, I'm going to hell, but I'll be buried in a Sioux jersey anyway. (Regardless if the name changes.)
