“@LetsPlay_Hockey: Iowa State University is still pursuing a Division I men’s hockey varsity program. The logical league for them to join would be the WCHA.”
Logic has nothing to do with how leagues are formed or who their members are. Look at the NaCHo.“@LetsPlay_Hockey: Iowa State University is still pursuing a Division I men’s hockey varsity program. The logical league for them to join would be the WCHA.”
Maybe, but I've been hearing this as long as I've been hearing Navy is pursuing D1 hockey...though I suppose that Penn State finally took the step, which I first heard about back in the 70s, so I guess anyhting is possible...

What Iowa State alum is going to throw down 88 mil?
So is that a quote from a reliable source, or just random speculation by a wannabe?
Can we get something besides a random Twitter post on this?
Also, they can save money by using cornstalks to help build the structure.Who says it needs to be that much? Tsongas didn't come anywhere close... Don't know about Agganis.

Wasn't that the same account that tweeted that Jimmy John was on the verge of hooking Illinois up? How's that going?
Edit: Obviously, I'd love it if Iowa State, Illinois, Navy and everyone else who wants an NCAA program gets one. It's just that, as Jim noted, my particular school of choice was the subject of rumors for literally decades. In fact, PSU did conduct feasibility studies on hockey several times, each of which led to upticks in the usual rumor noise and did constitute "pursuing" DI hockey, but didn't really constitute a valid reason to think anything was imminent. I'm naturally skeptical of rumors like this for obvious reasons, but hey, it only has to be true once.
As for the money, you probably don't need $102 million. We're trying to raise $23 million for endowment (which is probably required for anyone to at least some extent in this belt-tightening era) beyond the $89 million for an arena, so $112 million total. Moorhead only thought they needed $30 million. Call it somewhere around $50-60 million to get an arena plus at least make a decent dent in your scholarship expenses. There still aren't a ton of people out there who can cover that.
This rumor might have some legs. Heard another Big 12 school is looking into it as well. Hard to imagine one would make the leap without the other.
And yes they would play in the NCHC
