Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Can we apply this to every state and every law already on the books? Or do you only want to do it here?

I've never heard him bring this issue up on anything else, even things that are much more state specific. Nor have I heard him bring it up in the context of how Texas, New Mexico, and California have been given more border resources for many years, so if we're taking his approach, they should start paying for all the extra border resources those states have gotten and that Arizona is just asking to be brought up to the same level. But I've gone around and around with him on this, and he has total tunnel vision on this issue, not looking at anything else surrounding it.

Yeah, I'm fine with this plan so long as Arizona foots the annexation bill.

What annexation bill? Oh, I see, you're saying Mexico won't want the U of A, so we'd have to pay them to take the Mildcats. Good point. That could get pretty costly. I guess it would depend on how steep the price tag was.

Was watching CNN and they had this fascinating report. I had no idea they actually have to pay the Mexican government to enter the country. The one thing I am not quite sure what that exactly accomplishes.

That sounds like paying duty to me. No different than other countries... except that its a high rate and all that stuff.

edit: since we have a free-trade agreement you have to wonder why Mexico is assessing a duty on goods returned to Mexico.

If you haven't noticed, I don't want the AZ law turning into a trend of pork barrel spending by states that we're responsible.

Tell me state laws where the US govt is expected to pay most of the costs...and lets discuss.

Yup, our entire nation is indebted to you for your campaign to avoid this one area of federal spending!

If you don't want the border controlled, you really should come up with a better argument than this. There are much better ones out there. Hey, I can even spell them out if you need me to.

Hey, you never know how much horned frog sexuality matters to this nation until you really need to know.

Show me evidence. I was far more disappointed by the defeat of a recent federal bill to fund increased border security than you.

The evidence is on this board, where you yammer on and on about a little extra funding to secure our border, but say little or nothing about the national debt, rampant pork-barrel spending, etc.

Again, you are confused on that bill. It was fundamentally about commerce, not border security. You've had this pointed out to you a number of times, by myself and others.

When I want information about the American government and its processes, I turn to Australian newspapers first.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Article I quoted a week ago about McCain and Kyl being against the bill.

http://www.azbiz.com/articles/2010/07/30/news/doc4c53218307517571722253.txt

"When Senator McCain's amendments were rejected he agreed to back the bill." Bill being passed as I guess it now helps border security.

http://www.theage.com.au/world/650m-for-us-border-protection-20100806-11ohn.html

You are confusing your bills. The bill that was talked about earlier was a different bill that dealt with border commerce. Once again you are confused.

So...that's a different $600 million dollar bill that adds about 1200 guards to the border on which both McCain and Kyl were opposed. So one is important to border security and the other has nothing to do with border security?

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

National Guard is not the same as border agents, customs, etc. The Guard approval happened awhile ago, and the only reason deployment isn't already in place for awhile is Obama dragging his feet on actually following through. No way a bill that was supposedly just approved is the same as the Guard bill that went through awhile back.
