Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Because the illegal vote's so big...

And as I've said in the past, I'm generally on your side when it comes to immigration issues, so I really don't know why you continue to call me a liberal, unless it's simply because that just isn't even close to being a top priority when assessing candidates for the 2012 election.

But forgive me if I don't believe a Tucson newspaper as being completely unbiased on this issue. And I've learned over the last few years that reporters never get legal stories right, and since this guy doesn't appear to understand even a relatively simple concept like prosecutorial discretion, I'm even more skeptical of his assertions.
I guess because you usually criticize me on immigration issues, and side with folks like 5mn who wants to see an open border with no federal expenditures to control the border, as he apparently thinks that'll allow funding of all his other programs he wants from Obama while simultaneously balancing the budget.

If you knew the Tucson media, you'd know how silly this sounds. Tucson is the liberal part of Arizona. There was an article in the paper a few months back about how some Tucsonans want to secede from the rest of Arizona, and particularly Phoenix, they dislike how the Republicans do things so much. Not to mention that Hugh Holub is a longtime southern Arizona resident who is widely respected for his insights. You may recall me having posted articles by him in the past, not always taking my slant on immigration issues. So, you're right, a Tucson paper wouldn't generally be unbiased, they'd be biased in favor of the illegals. The Citizen is a bit more balanced than the Daily Star though, I will give them that.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

You know, as much as I'd like to assume he's stupid, we know he's been looking to do this for awhile. This is how they operate.... try to look moderate to the cameras and do all the die-hard liberal/socialist stuff when people aren't looking. This has been a distinct hallmark of this administration. They've decided to do by executive order that they can't get through congress. Health initiatives, declaring dust as a pollutant, etc. The march continues.
Spot on. I really don't get how unofan doesn't connect the dots in some of these areas, as at other times he does pretty well.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Still no mention of why its a bad idea to prioritize the deportation of criminals (waiting for one brain celled righty to write "but they're all criminals...waaaahhhh). Agree with unofan, as I too don't think illegals should be here, but I also understand something called "reality". In reality you can't wholesale deport 11M people, so you need to prioritize.

As far as the politics go, how is this any different than the Bush/Rove effort regarding Hispanics. Undoubtably this will win Obama support in that community, and if that sticks it to the GOP so be it although that doesn't take away from this being the correct policy. Lets just say it adds to it!

Bush was lousy on dealing with illegal immigration for the most part. So the fact that Obama is in some ways similar to Bush (which is rather hilarious that a liberal on here would compare Obama to Bush to justify anything) doesn't win him any points in those who want a secure border.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Let's face it, he could institute a 2nd trail of tears from the SW back to the border, and it still wouldn't win him any points for those who want a secure border. Simply having the (D) after his name loses him 80% of the "national security 1st" voters, regardless of his actions or policies.

Also, I learned the other day that not all illegal immigrants are criminals simply by definition. Overstaying a valid visa is still simply a civil violation, not a criminal offense. Crossing the border illegally is now a criminal act, though it, too, used to be merely a civil one as recently as the 1990's.
Nice evasion. Doesn't change the fact that Obama is abysmal regarding border security.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Which doesn't change the fact border security is no longer a high profile issue to about 85% of the country, especially since illegal immigration has slowed dramatically given the bad economy.

Also, that was a nice evasion by you to Rover's question, too.

Bob rarely answers tough questions, so I'm used to it. I'm curious if he and his ilk support the DREAM act, basically giving citizenship to those who served in the armed forces and have no criminal record, but I'm guessing he's going to duck that one too.

So by that metric of measurement, our government should focus its resources on American Idol and Lady Gaga. Come now, even if you want to be evasive on the issue, you can do a lot better than saying the public isn't that interested. The American public has about as long of an attention span as my yellow labrador, sometimes less.

It's the will of the people.

Here's a good story
http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/...-after-deadly-drunk-driving-crash-in-milford/

An Illegal alien arrested several times for driving without a license and assaulting a cop, finally kills someone driving drunk. Dragged the guy down the road, apparently that didn't kill the guy so he backs over him. How this guy remains in this country after assaulting a cop is beyond me. I would assume Deval making Mass. a sanctuary state has something to do with it.

Herman Cain wants an electric fence. He says it was a joke though? Did you laugh? I didn't.
