Hotels in Minneapolis

Re: Hotels in Minneapolis

It lost all credibility as soon as they said Al Franken was the best politician. I quit reading after that and now I'm cleaning vomit off my computer. I wouldn't trust a **** thing that site says.
I rarely use the rag myself, and I certainly don't follow their editorial staff's line of thinking on most issues, but a friend at work was going on about their Best Of edition, and it does throw out some restaurants that may be of interest. Add to that other suggestions that we didn't give - like Como Park as an example.

Re: Hotels in Minneapolis

Every year a local weekly paper, the City Pages, puts out a "Best of the Cities" edition. They keep a copy online, and it's the staff's opinions, with some listings of their readers' opinions, of a whole multitude of things. Some of their listings are really random, others are good for an actual idea of how to spend a day around town. Here's the non-PDF version:

Also on Facebook, there's a 365 things to do in the Twin Cities page and, even better, a 365 things to avoid in the Twin Cities page.

Re: Hotels in Minneapolis

Since this seems like it's turning into a 'what to do in the Twin Cities' thread, I'll thrown in my two cents.

"Twin Citians are spoiled for great choices when it comes to pizza..." I just bruised my jaw on the floor by the sheer naivete of that statement. The options for good pizza in the Twin Cities are as follows: Cossetta's. **** piled onto a cracker is not a pizza.

This was also a reminder that the Twin Cities is home to the world's ****tiest barbeque. Seriously, Famous Dave's was the readers choice. I'm shocked somebody managed to beat out the Olive Garden for great authentic Italian cuisine.

As for some of the other places mentioned that I've been to...

Sen Yai Sen Lek-Awesome place, really good food.

Brasa-It was good, but I ate there eight months ago and haven't really felt the need to go back.

The Local-I was meeting someone down there so I didn't get very exotic with the menu--I had a fairly run-of-the-mill burger. Cool place if you can sit out on the patio in the summer though.

The octopus tacos at La Sirena Gorda have won best taco in the past, and those are definitely really good.

There are plenty of places for good pizza, and I know that most will agree with me.

Re: Hotels in Minneapolis

My favorite Twin Cities pizza places, in no particular order...

Angelo's Pizza on the east side of St. Paul on White Bear Avenue and Larpenteur.
Village Pizza Downtown North St. Paul, 7th Ave
The Little Oven on the east side of St. Paul on Minnehaha and White Bear Ave.
Romolo's on the east side of St. Paul on Arcade Ave.
Randy's Premier Pizza in Oakdale just off Highway 36 and Highway 120(Geneva Ave)
Pizza Factory in North St. Paul on Highway 120(Division St.) and South Ave.(Get the broasted potatoes and sour cream dip)
Roadside Pizza in White Bear Lake on Whittaker and Highway 61(There's also one off 35E and Larpenteur but I haven't been to that one.)
Jakeno's in Minneapolis on 35th and Chicago

Re: Hotels in Minneapolis

The Twin Cities have got the whole burger thing down, and that's where they really shine in my opinion. Pizza, not so much.

It's pizza, it's hard to screw up. But I haven't really seen anything that I would classify as being above average out here. I'd certainly put the Twin Cities well below the median of what you'd find in a major city.

I wouldn't turn to a reader's poll for what's considered the best in town. Quite often name recognition more than the quality of the food wins out in such rating. The TC area has improved its fine dining the past dozen years, but great, great pizza here is few and far between compared to cities of a similar size.
