Home Improvement - Undoing Previous Owners "Landlord" Specials

When the spouse says we need a new oven, this is not the way to do it.

Such a bad idea. Do you think insurance will cover the damage? I read a similar story in Akko reviews, and many people there believe that insurance should cover at least something in situations like this. It’s frustrating when unexpected incidents occur, especially when you’ve taken precautions to protect your belongings. From what I gathered in those reviews, many users shared their experiences with filing claims and the challenges they faced.

Had an old Bose soundlink that was always finicky with Bluetooth support. Saw a project online for an AirPlay raspberry pi zero that can play over anything that has an aux input.

I now have a $25 HomePod mini that sounds better, doesn't need Bluetooth, and syncs perfectly with the other HomePods in the house. Neat!

Never heard of her.

Oh, drama still unraveling.

mikko getting married in mn in a few weeks, he’s (according to his exes post) turned off hear and water in the Finnish house she’s living in, that he also owns (and got a judge in mn to order the ex to sign it over which she won’t).

she claims he’s telling her she has to sign docs that allow all 3 kids to accompany mikko and his fianc? to mn for wedding. If the ex comes here she’s supposedly going to be arrested for violating the judge’s order. She doesn’t want kids to go alone to MN with them. She also says she talked to a friend who recently finished her divorce settlement from nhl player and I’m guessing that’s the zuckers.

not sure any of us from the old hood saw it getting this ugly

Last week received an email that the mortgage was being sold to another company. Yesterday received an email from the current mortgage holder that I can lower my escrow by looking for new home owners insurance with their partnered insurance company for the whole... *checks calendar*... eight days they still service my mortgage.

Most annoying part is I have received at least six different notifications by mail or email about the switch, including that the new mortgage holder has created a new mortgage number for me, but it's still another two and a half weeks before they say I will actually be able to set up an account.

My mortgage has been sold 3 times so far, each to a shittier servicer than the previous.

Wooo wedding happened without incident. Luckily mikko didn’t force the kids to go

the ex has kids and posted that she’s sick that some parents are poisoning kids with flu vaccines and she’s just healing and protecting kids with good Whole Foods

I hope all three kids find new parents. Fuck all those parents who get their kid vaccines and prevent things like measles. Which is currently spreading in many places

If I find out that any of you put up wallpaper, I'm going to find you and cut you.

I've spent ten hours over the last two days trying to remove the wallpaper from the previous owners in our spare office. It's the cheap peel and stick stuff and the steamer seems to just make as much of a mess as it helps. The paper just disintegrates with the steam even though I'm doing half the recommended time of holding. I tried doing the recommended time to hold and it ended up over steaming and the backing started to come up.

I'm also discovering that A) this wall has seen some things; there are repaired holes and gouges EVERYWHERE B) I'm confident that it wasn't properly primed before the wallpaper went up. There is thin, dry, contractor white and that's it. Even in the corners. It's super patchy and probably only one coat.

i fuuuuuuuuucking hate wallpaper.

Ok. The wall has been sanded, patched/spackled, and remanded. It's looks brand new....errr feels like new in terms of surface quality. It looks like utter shit. Blotchy white everywhere. Anyways, just need to remove the remaining furniture and paint!

Not exactly a "Home Improvement" question per se, but something I have yet to do and am not really sure where to start:

- Where does one go to shop for pillows?

I've looked at Wal-mart & Target, and even got a couple for Guests/ the living room couch. But overall they are just low quality and fairly thin. Granted they were on the cheaper side. I'm specifically looking for something firmer/fuller as I need something that can prop your head/shoulders up on my new XXL Bean Bag chair (don't hate. This thing is comfy AF).

A quick google search gets me a crap ton of MY PILLOW bs, so you can see why I don't trust Google, lol.

Kohls is where I have gotten mine for like the last 15 years. Macys and JC Penney would probably be good choices too. Any of the big dept stores really.

For throw/decorative pillows, try Ikea. Lots of different patterns/colors and they all fit over the same pillow insert.

I got one recently at JC Penney. A thick, very firm one as I'm a side sleeper, and if my head is too low, my neck and back bother me. Brand name. When it comes to pillows, I try not to skimp. Good sleep is too important.

Anyone have a furnace repair service they like in the twin cities on the east side?

I'm 99% sure the solenoid died (which is crazy because solenoids are usually rated for like a half-million cycles). Anyways, I'd rather hire a service with scruples because I don't want my furnace red-tagged by some shady POS.

Super Heating and Cooling out of Blaine, owned by John Super. He installed my entire HVAC system, and he didn’t even make a move to screw me over the way the big name players tried to do. He’s also very experienced, in his 60s, I think, and knows how to actually troubleshoot systems using the older methods that the young guys don’t seem to learn anymore - the computers can only take you so far. He solved my A/C issue this past summer in about 15 minutes. One of the big names was out here with their tech in his early 20s, and that young guy tried, but didn’t know to check the pressure during some XYZ process. That young guy’s company was going to charge some giant amount of money for the “advanced team” to do another system check. Again, John found the issue in about 15 minutes, had it all fixed in under an hour.

He’s not BBB accredited, but has an A+ rating.

It’s definitely smart to look for a furnace repair service with a solid reputation. I’d recommend checking reviews online to see what other customers are saying about services in the area. Look for companies that emphasize honesty and transparency in their work. When you call, you could ask upfront about their process for diagnosing and repairing issues, and whether they’ll explain everything clearly before doing any work. I’d recommend checking out cabinets to go. They offer great options for kitchen or bathroom remodels, with quality cabinets at competitive prices. It’s always nice to have a reliable option for home upgrades while keeping things running smoothly at home.

Solenoid on a furnace? Solenoid on an oil pump are known weak spots but you must be natty gas. Is it a zone valve?

Yeah, they're the main shutoff valve. All natural gas furnaces have them assuming all furnaces have simple open/close valves and aren't modulating.

Anyways, solenoids are extremely simple devices and I have never seen the actual coil on one fail despite installing probably 500-1,000 of them at work. Usually it's some other part of the valve that fails. But not in this case. The coil was just not going to budge the valve.
