He's not suspended, he is ineligible.

The NCAA decided that Vatrano will sit 50 percent of UMass’ 2013-14 games in addition to his “year in residence” that every transfer must serve. Since he enrolled in January, his second half of his year in residence is the Fall 2013 semester.

Tournament champ: BC
NCAA Tourney Teams: Lowell, BC, Notre Dame, Providence, UNH
Rookie of the year: Any BC freshmen
Player of the year: Kevin Goumas, UNH
Best Goalie:Sam Marrota (Merrimack)
Coach of the year: Norm Bazin (Lowell)
Surprise Team/Biggest Jump: Merrimack

Big Ten / Hockey East Challenge... marketing shenanigans or genius?

Personally it's kind cheesy IMO. While the idea is nice it could have been done in a more meaningful and better way. This just seems like a weak attempt at starting a rivalry.

They should take and set aside the dates...

each year the top teams from each league play each other, the two second place teams play each and on down the line... rotating home/road each year.

But taking and picking a few teams after the fact just makes it seem .... weak.

I love the idea. Been saying for a while something like this should be done (like a WCHA-HE battle). Only problem I see is with whatever the format will be given that there is a big discrepancy between the # of teams in each league. Regardless, give me something like this over an extra game against Merrimack on a Tuesday night.

I like the idea of a Big Ten v. Hockey East Battle... I just want to see the top teams play the top teams and the mediocre teams play the mediocre teams...

The top Big Ten team could play HE #1 & #2, the #2 BT could play HE #3&#4 or some thing to that effect. But I do like the idea and it's a smart move for HE, it guarantees games against the Big Ten teams every year.

Anyone else think 3rd seems a little high for UNH? I know they had some really good stretches last year and DeSmith was unbeatable at times, but they fell off a little at the end of last season (with ties against Maine, Umass and UVM) finishing 5th in Hockey East. I would at least put PC ahead of them (and probably Notre Dame). PC went 2-0-1 in the season series with them last year (then beat them 2-1 in the quarterfinals). PC also brings back more of their scoring and a better recruiting class. I'm not saying it's far off, I'm just wondering why the coaches thought UNH would be 3rd this year and why they thought they would be better than PC.

I don't have any problems with mediocre teams playing top teams. Pairwise don't lie..

PC also lost and tied with UVM...

Its a poll... and apparently the coaches think that UNH is better the PC, or Gilles will have the dread slump...

Yeah, perhaps but doesn't UNH have a couple hot shots coming in this year? I think it's clearly UML at the top then the next 3-4 about equal so 2-5 in any order and you have to put BU in that 2-5 mix as usual
