Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

Re: Carter Hutton - 1st Team Hockey East - All American

Re: Carter Hutton - 1st Team Hockey East - All American

Wow, you think MC will sweep BU on the road where they are 3-13-1 this year. That would be a huge upset. You have to be a UML fan.

MC is 3-1-1 in their last 5 road games. It's not a huge stretch to think they'd continue that.

You must be a BU fan if you can't even imagine this outcome. ;) Has BU really looked all that dominant to you this year?

MC is 3-1-1 in their last 5 road games after going 0-12. I think they've turned a corner in that respect and are capable of bringing their "A" game on the road - an "A" game, by the way, which looks pretty **** good.

I'm thinking they go with Cannata, who has done pretty well against BU, and they win a couple of shootouts. They came up short in the two shootouts at Agganis this year and those where during that 0-12 stretch. I saw the Jan. 16th game and the only reason BU won was because Rollheiser stood on his head. I'm sure MC is dying to get another shot at BU and usually that kind of inspiration can turn the tide in otherwise close battles. I'm sure Jackie Parker isn't taking MC as lightly as you are.

What the hell does being a UML fan have to do with predicting MC over BU? When I'm not rooting for UML (my alma mater), I'm usually rooting for BU - where I also have some connections. :p

But, hey, hope that scarlet-colored vision works out for ya!

#1 UNH beats #8 UVM in three
#2 BC beats #7 UMA in two
#6 MC beats #3 BU in two
#5 UML beats #4 UM in two

#1 UNH over #6 MC, 5-4
#5 UML over #2 BC, 3-1

#5 UML over #1 UNH, 2-0

Lowell does seem to have BC's number, although I'm not sure whether that is a general thing or a 'Tsongas Arena' thing. If the game does come to reality, it will be interesting to see how Lowell plays at TD Garden versus their own arena.

Where did MC get their first road win/points... I can't remember ;)

I don't know if you caught the Hockey East Finals last year ....

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

Well, what's more of a stretch? MC sweeping BU or BU winning the HE tourney? I'd say chances are about the same.

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

Other than BC-UMA (BC in 2) and Maine-UML (UML in 2, Maine's goalie issue the dominating factor) the rest of the tournament is a coin flip.

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

If I'm handicapping (rover/spin control insert gambling joke here about the "gambino family"), I would put BC as the clear favorite, with BU next in line with a decent drop in odds and UNH 3rd with slightly less favorable odds than BU. Everyone else is significantly less likely to win the tourney IMO.

??? I thought you guys switched alliances to the Genovese family? :D

3-13-1 doesn't tell the whole story... they lost 6 games by one goal and another three by two where one of the two was an empty netter... so they lost essentially nine 1-goal games... now look at who they lost them to:

North Dakota (20-11-5)
Boston College (21-10-3)
Boston University (16-15-3) - lost by two with an ENG
Northeastern (16-6-2)
Wisconsin (22-9-4) - missing players to world juniors
Maine (16-15-3) - lost by two with and an ENG and had a goal when tied that would have put them up 3-2 called back that was deemed fortunate for maine by maine fans
Boston University (16-15-3) - lost by two with an ENG
UMass Lowell (18-14-4)
New Hampshire (16-11-7) - Lost in Overtime

all told, they lost essentially 9 one goal games against opponents that had a cumulative record of 161-106-34, 55 games over .500... 8 of those games are against teams currently under consideration in the PairWise (Northeastern is the first team out of the PWR at 26th in the RPI)

their road tie was against vermont who is also a TUC...

Nope and Nope. But then again neither has Merrimack

They were capable before too, they just didn't. They got a win against Providence and 3 points from a struggling VT team. And you think that means they are going to go to Agganis and sweep BU that has been swept there exactly once (by UVM:D ) ???

I'm sure Jackie Parker isn't taking MC as lightly as you are.

I'm not taking them lightly, I just don't think they can win, and certainly not sweep.

What the hell does being a UML fan have to do with predicting MC over BU?

It doesn't. It has to do with picking UML to beat Maine, BC and UNH to win the HE Championship......

I'd say decidedly A, MC sweeping is more of a stretch...........i dunno, i just think BU easily into the semi's. Kudos to MC for their great improvement this year but going to Agganis and knocking out BU? even against this BU team, i think it's too early for them in their progression up the HE ladder, but who knows?

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

One question I have on Merrimack is did they float one guy outside the defensive zone at all times against all teams or just BC? I've only seen them against BC and had never really seen a team use such a philosophy. Very high risk, high reward.

Re: Carter Hutton - 1st Team Hockey East - All American

Re: Carter Hutton - 1st Team Hockey East - All American

It has to do with picking UML to beat Maine,

Is that similar to all those crazy people that picked Lowell to beat Vermont last year in the playoffs?

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

Since this is anyone's tournamnet, I am claiming it as my own and declaring Northeastern as the winners. The rest of you can all just go home. :D

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

MC floated a guy the majority of almost every single game this year. its a strategy not only to get breakaways and odd man rushes, but also to occupy a point man as well as allow them to dump the puck have the floater tip it and get a quick change or a good forecheck. it has worked out quite well this year for the most part and in some games has been even more effective, but yes to answer your question it has been a regular thing.

They did it at Vermont as well but it didnt result in anything as all of Merrimack goals came other ways. I think its more designed to mess with the other teams offense pulling a point guy out of the zone then helping them get any scoring chances.

Hey, more power to Dennehy for having the guts to think outside the box.

Re: Hockey East: Anyones Tournament

I was looking thru the HE tourney history and see that #8 seeds have upset #1 seeds 3 times, while #2 seeds have never lost a quarterfinal series.

They lost 2-1 on a last second goal @ BC. They've played them very tough all year...nothing would surprise me if they met at the Garden.

I certainly remember Merrimack over BU and BU over BC...what was the 3rd?

I know polls mean nothing, but here was the HE preseason poll:

1. Boston University (6) 84
2. UMass Lowell (2) 79
3. Boston College (2) 76
4. New Hampshire 59
Vermont 59
6. Northeastern 57
7. Massachusetts 47
8. Maine 32
9. Providence 24
10. Merrimack 23
