I should also point out that UMass is scheduled to play on Wednesday. Wouldn't seem necessary to have UMass play Wednesday and then another two games against BC.
I haven't been following this angle of it closely so I have no idea what has happened with other teams but BC is scheduled to play UMass next weekend even though they already played two against them. Is there a chance they change opponents or just proceed as scheduled?
I can't figure out why Hockey East keeps adding Wednesday games for UMass, a team that has played so many more games that the rest of the league.
I think early in the week they will announce next weekend’s schedule. I’m not sure for any team what is on their website means anything.
Long time college hockey fan since 1975. All I can say is I will wait until we get a real season to care again.
This is not a real season with some teams not even playing while others have 10 or more games.

...This season is a mess and will continue to be a mess schedule wise. Some teams will be able to play a lot and some wont. There is zero chance all teams will play the same amount of games. At this point the best thing Hockey East can do is try its best and if a team can play that weekend schedule a game with no matter who the opponent is. So what if BC plays UMASS 4 times at least they get games in. Hopefully in a few months enough teams will have enough games to do some sort of league tournament. My initial thought is to use coaches poll to decide seedings...
Probably doesn't matter if we care. I am sure the players do. I just hope there's an NCAA tournament on the horizon. Hoops is having their tournament all within the state of Indiana. Does anyone know where things stand with a hockey tournament?
One gets the sense that HEA will allow teams to play as many games as they possibly can, but has thrown out any concept of balanced scheduling at this point. Which is fine with me, but some communication about what the goal(s) and/or strategy actually are might be nice to know. Unless of course, there is no logic/no strategy (and that seems increasingly possible).
Still, knowing what's going on from a league standpoint might be nice for us, the fans.
I suppose a starting point would be auto bids for whoever leagues determine to be regular season champions/#1 seed and then auto bids for tournament champions as well.
Brad Schlossman, UND reporter, wrote that NCAA is still planning on NCAA tournament which includes the current 4 regional setup provided those local areas allow it to take place. Also said with the PWR non existent this year, a selection process is still in the works. Paraphrasing but that is the jist. Seems to me like we don't need a 16 team field this year but we'll see how this unfolds.
Agree with the overall starting concept ... but determining a RS "champion" is not only going to be challenging, but could lead to some scheduling hanky-panky down the stretch.
Example: imagine School X is in first place going into the final weekend of RS play ... and the only way School Y can catch them is not only to win School Y's own game(s), but also to get some "help" from another school taking points from School X. School X takes a long hard look at things ... one or two kids report positive tests, giving School X an excuse to "pull the plug" on their final weekend, salting away the RS "title" for School X, leaving School Y out in the cold to win their league tourney.
We really can't get to the end of this crap soon enough ...
