Re: Hobey Baker Top-10
Gaudreau probably has it locked up but he shouldn't necessarily. Greg Carey put up a very respectable 57 points with a much weaker supporting cast and fewer games. He lead the nation in goals last year and assists this year. He has a 93 average GPA and is/was a serious student. He was active in community. He lead the team in scoring all four years. The Hobey is SUPPOSED to be more than just an MVP. It is supposed to be about academics, contributions in and outside of hockey. It isn't though. Gaudreau was runner up last year and will probably win it this year.
On Nic Dowd, he is an outstanding defensive forward so the argument can be made for him on that basis.
What I find offensive is that USCHO had some writer with an article on the front page before the hat trick was announced and his hatrick was Gaudreau, Wilcox and Gostisbehere. I don't fault him for his picks, but he didn't even mention Greg Carey as a finalist and that's just laughable. #2 in national scoring, leading assist man on #1 PP (a PP and a team without a single draft pick), an outstanding student. It's a good thing those writers aren't paid because that's just embarrassing.
Hey...so the Hobey Hat Trick was announcd today.
Johnny Gaudreau, Boston College
Greg Carey, St. Lawrence
Nic Dowd, St. Cloud State
I'm not sure who Ryan Lambert is (apparently he's one of those supposed "writers" for Yahoo), but if you look at his Twitter feed he is SUPER butthurt about Dowd being there. Likely because he's from Boston and he's scared of another "lowly" SCSU player beating Johnny Hockey. I don't necessarily think Dowd will win, but what does it matter to this guy which other two players are there?
(Yeah, I thought it would be Gaudreau, Dowd, and Wilcox)
